" The local government should play a major role in monitoring Internet content. The main part of local government that needs to be monitoring the internet is the school system. If school systems monitored internet content more actively, then cyber bullying and many other issues could be prevented. Firstly, I believe the number one thing on the internet that should be closely monitored are social media websites. Social media makes it easy for teens to bully or harass each other, without actually having to confront each other in person. Teens are more likely to bully their peers online, because they know they will most likely not face any consequences. Now personally in my opinion I don’t believe that not facing extreme consequences is okay in any way. No teen should feel obligated to end their own life just to escape cyber bullying. Personally I have experienced cyber bullying and when I took the comments to a school official, they told me that their hands were tied and they couldn’t do any thing because the comments were made online, not on school grounds. I was able to overcome cyber bullying because I had a great support system, but lets think about the teens that don’t. Many don’t have great family and friends reminding them daily of how great they are that they mean something to so many people. So, then in order to escape the pain and torment of cyber bullying they do the only thing they think is logical at the time, they take their own life. No one should have to come to that situation.
