Schools Should Not Punish Off-Campus Cyberbullying Schools all around the U.S obtain frustration with off-campus cyberbullying and bullying all together. Students today have access to cell phones and in addition computers. Whether off campus or on-campus, students will continue to tease their peers for anything from the clothes they wear to where they're from. These antics off-campus should be dealt with by the legal guardian and not the schools. Since schools have the capability to investigate the situation and it worresens day by day, therefore they should undergo investigation if the harassment/tormenting continues. Because cyberbullying is on phones, computers and tablets too and schools can not confenskate the device unless the student is using it at the wrong time or during class. Edwin C. Yohnka says, “There’s a real risk that schools could end up punishing students for things they say online that may be inappropriate, but aren’t necessarily cyberbullying” (Yohnka). This shows that when schools do take in into their own hands it can be misunderstood. Not only can it be misunderstood but it could break the trust between students and teachers. Once again Edwin C. Yohnka states, “Teachers and principals work hard to build strong relationships with their students. It would be terrible if forcing educators to hand out punishments for things that happen outside of class damaged those bonds” …show more content…

According to Edwin C. Yohnka he says, “Instead of punishing students, a better way to combat cyberbullying would be for schools to teach appropriate online behavior along with explaining why cyberbullying is wrong and how it can hurt its victims. That way, teachers can be educators, not full-time disciplinarians” (Yohnka). In other words, teaching students to prevent/cope with cyberbullying and not forcing them to stop is an outstanding solution to the problem--and it will help. Some may say not all parents will take handle it or sometimes parent is unfamiliar with the situation/can't do it. It is possible that could happen but that only a handful of parents not all of the parents whose child is getting bullied/bully. Others think schools should create time to handle the situation so parents can do what they need to do during their free time not breaking the trust they created their child.
