These two teams push the intervention phase of the problem solving process which to me can be an asset. An area for improvement could be in the assessment phase. Identifying other resources in the community the client has access to would be helpful. Often times we find that clients have multiple case managers, social workers and doctors they are connected to and with that information that will allow the new worker a circle of support to help engage the client. It will also provide resources for the client and worker to develop from, and will prevent the overlap in services between the agencies in the city. In training every member is provide with a NASW Standards Manuel as well as the NASW Code of Ethics. These are provided to the staff members in order for them to understand what standards are expected to be upheld. Ethics and value standards are reviewed, in annual training which is required by every staff member to ensure that employees remain knowledgeable about what is expected. The agency ensures that all of its staff members are knowledgably and qualified which are standards outline in the NASW Standards for Case Management by providing rigorous interviewing process and effective new hire training. The NASW Code of Ethics outlines a variety of standards that the agency implements such as; ethical principles which allow the worker to understand the importance of the client rights, ethical standards which outline moral guidelines such as, commitment to client, self-determination, and informed consent. Its mission during establishment was to, “provide mental health services to consumers who were transitioning from institutional care into society” (“Community Connections History,” 2008). The agency understanding of its clients’ ecological systems helps them assist the client. The problem solving process is one that is used effectively within the agency to engage, assess, conduct research, and evaluate a client’s progress with the agency. The level of professionalism and professional standards that the agency has implemented is remarkable; it embodies the NASW Code of Ethics as its own. Training employees to recognize cultural competence and advocating on behalf of their clients has moved the agency forward. Working with this agency I have developed a sense of pride. Using many of the resources and knowledge that I have gained through my course studies at Howard University as allowed me to be an asset to the agency and my clients. It has also provided me with foundational resources that I can perfect throughout my
