Sports injuries are a very common occurrence. This research paper will highlight some of the most common injuries that an athlete may receive while performing in the sport. There are many ways to treat sports injuries if an athlete receives one. If people are aware of how to warm up, and use proper technique: then athletes would not have to worry about injuries because there are many ways to prevent them from happening. In the sport of football there are many types of injuries. One of the most common injuries occurs to the knee. These types of injuries occur when the player is bearing weight on one side of the knee, then gets tackled at a certain angle to cause damage to the ligaments (Football Injuries, n.d.). Ligament sprains are the most commonly reported injuries. They account for more than 30 percent of all injuries, with the lateral ligaments of the ankle and medial collateral ligaments of the knee most commonly affected (EyeOnNFL, n.d.). Even though these are common injuries in football, they certainly are not the only injuries a player needs to worry about. Another common type of injury in football is a concussion. Athletes should plan to have at least one day off per week, and at least one month off per year from training in a particular sport to allow the body to recover (2016 Sports Injury Prevention Tip Sheet, n.d). When athletes don’t take time off of their sport they are more susceptible to overuse injuries. The most common injuries in sport are sprains and strains. When athletes do not allow their muscles to rest, then they are constantly being used, and when this happens sprains and strains are likely to occur (H, Mathew, n.d). In addition to taking time off, one of the best ways to avoid an injury is to wear the equipment
