When you walk into a room of people look around you at everybody. Can you pick out one or two people who suffer from a learning disability? Simply by looking at me Could you tell I do. Even educators did not realize that I had dyslexia. Unfortunately, they did not see the signs. I would like to share with you, how I have endeavored obstacles throughout life and still do, to this day. When I was growing up, I struggled a great deal in school! In third grade I started a new school. They had three tiers of classes. One with the regular kids, another with kids that needed a little bit of help in math and reading, and thirdly, a category that had mentally retarded children learning life skills. I may have had to go out of class for reading and math, but a lot of kids did, too. I didn't mind that, as much, as the life skills class. I do feel like I am very backwards, a lot, still as an adult. Unknowing was very confusing, as well as frustrating. I still get very frustrated when I confuse dates or times, causing me to miss appointments. It is constantly a struggle. The point that I am trying to makes: if you have a child or are involved in a childs life, watch how he/she says or writes abc's or 123's. Know the signs, if they are getting letters or numbers mixed up, such as, 2 and 5, 3 and s, 7 and L, w and m, 12 and 21, 19 and 91, excetra. If he/she does display difficulties with letter's and number's, please recommend them to be tested! If a child has Dyslexia, work with that child to find out what different things they could do to read better. See if spacing sentences out will help. Maybe they would just need a blank sheet of paper to block out the other words, Use flash cards and repetition. Also, routines are extremely
