Why am I taking AP United States History? To be quite frank, I didn’t really think about it until you asked. I just knew that it was the harder class and all of my friends were taking it. But now that I have put some thought into it, my understanding three key reasons: college credit, knowledge, and self motivation. My goal has been to go to college ever since I can remember. Now that I’m getting older, the dream is becoming harder and harder to achieve. For example, it costs a ridiculous amount of money to attend a decent school. Not to mention the books, housing, and utility bills that come along with becoming an adult. So if this course could make that sum any lesser, I’m there one hundred percent. In my personal opinion, I feel that
It can train me to be properly prepared with a college mindset instead of having that mindset that is still in high school. I can gain a bachelors, possibly a masters, degree as I go to college. Having a bachelors or masters degree gives me not just a sense of accomplishment by making my family proud, but also a feeling of accomplishment of how far I have overcame to reach that degree. But all of this would not happen if it were not for the help of this program that will soon become the backbone of living a better life.
As the economy evolves and the job market continues to get more competitive, it’s becoming harder to have a successful career without some kind of college degree. This creates a belief in many young students that college actually is a commodity, something they must have in order to have a good life. There’s many different factors that influence this mindset, high schools must push the importance of the student’s willingness and drive to further their education. Since I grew up in a household with two parents who are college graduates, and even two grandparents who had graduated from college, the idea of attending college was never seen as a unique opportunity, but rather as a necessary part of my future. I’m not going to complain about growing up with parents who valued the pursuit of knowledge, but it certainly never exposed me to the mindset that maybe college is not the best option for everyone after high school. Today, there is a huge debate over if the price of college is really worth it in the end, with the high cost of tuition and the number of people who just aren’t prepared for the demands that college has to offer. College. Educational benefits that can help a person succeed in the vast majority of life’s careers. When I think of college, I think of hard work. I think of the dedication it takes to achieve a universal goal. Graduate with a degree that will further help to apply for a desired job. The course to get there may not be easy, but when the rich feeling of obtaining a diploma is near, it is more than worth the time. My road to success with college may differ from the average student. See, I am currently enlisted in the United States Air Force. To better understand my goals of college, one could look at the time and money it will take for me to graduate, how college benefits me, and more specifically, how English composition will better my future.
I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. My goals in college are to acquire the skills that I need to lead a successful and productive life, to expand my knowledge of the world, to step out of my comfort zone, and to become more proactive.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Is a question most children hear from time to time though out their childhood. Most people ponder on that question as they grow up and become adults. The question that usually comes up when thinking about what they what to be when they grow up is “Is college worth it?” Are the risk of the high loans, and the challenge of finding a job after school worth the time of the college education?
Motivation in college is different. For starters, as a student, I have to be self-motivated. My parents are not here to make sure I get my work done and go to class. I have to find motivation in myself to go to class and get my work done.
While it is nice to get more educated, your goals as an adult are usually more specific. Whether you are looking for improvement at your workplace or looking to switch it out completely – you know what you want. This is why it is important to realize what the benefits you get out of taking particular classes are.
As the cost of college tuition continues to rise each year, many individuals are questioning if a college education is worth the time and effort needed to obtain a college degree. In today’s society, however, a high school education or diploma is not enough to insure a chance at having a good future. For many students, the decision on whether or not he/she should pursue a higher education is a major conflict for many young adults who are graduating high school. Therefore, while some students wonder if going to college is worth the price tag, in the end, the benefits associated with earning a college degree are proven to uphold numerous opportunities for individuals in the future.
My purpose and goals in attending college is to make something of my life. It is a good thing. No one wants to be a nobody. But sometimes it takes time in order for one to realize this. & nbsp; Upon graduation from high school, I, like the majority of others high school graduates, had no clue what direction my life was heading or even what I wanted to become.

Many students struggle with college for various reasons, whether it is financial, academics, or personal. We may not fully understand why college students struggle the way they do; however, it does not mean help is unavailable. “Clearly, many of the benefits that accrue from a college education are explained by the knowledge, skills, and contacts that students gain from their time on campus and in the classroom (Brock 2)”. A certain degree of success in life can be related to the amount and quality of education which can also relate to income.
According to the NCES, nationwide, thirty to sixty percent of college freshmen require remedial courses in order to meet college admission requirements (2004). In Texas, 38 percent of Texas students enrolled in two-year colleges and technical schools and 24 percent of students at four-year public institutions took remedial courses during the 2006 academic year (Terry 2007). Twenty-eight percent of colleges in the United States report that students spend at least one year in remedial programs making it impossible to earn a degree in 2 or 4 years (NCES, 2003). These students have graduated from high school unprepared for participation in college courses. Unprepared student face both academic and financial barriers. Not preparing students for coursework and careers after high school is expensive. Remedial education courses are estimated to cost student one billion dollars annually. In addition, according to the ACT, despite participating in remedial classes, students who require remedial classes are significantly less likely to graduate from college (2005).
Every student out there has their various ways of learning. If there is somebody who absolutely does not want to go to college after high school, they are going to have a really hard time listening to college preparation stuff. It isn’t a bad thing to bring up college to young students, because it is very apparent that they need to know about it. However, when you have a class of fifth graders sitting there who don’t even know how to act mature in some situations, how are they supposed to understand college and the concept of it? There are some people that go to Worland High School who don’t even understand the concept of college, not because they didn’t learn early enough, but because it is a very difficult topic to think about. Obviously there are many people who don’t know what they are going to do when they grow up, so teaching kids about college at a young age might make them feel like they absolutely have to pick what they want to be as
