College Admissions Essay: I Am A Traveling Fashion Designer

I knew at a young age what I wanted to be when I grew up- a traveling fashion designer. I know, how cliché for a small town girl like me to dream of but I was not going to let that hold me back. After all, my beloved grandmother, Vera accomplished her dream by being our town’s seamstress for over 30 years. This is where my childhood inspiration first sprouted, in the home of my maternal grandparents. I was the young age of 9 when my grandma, Vera began passing down her inventive skills to me. That was the first year I began making numerous skirts for myself, with her assistance of course. Ever since then, I have been determined to fulfill my dreams by attending the Art Institute of Atlanta as a fashion major.
Now at the age of 17, I sell small clothing items such as pocket T-shirts, scarves and skirts to my peers at school. In search of additional retail experience, I volunteer at a local thrift store, designing the windows and repairing clothing items. I have been known to put buttons on coats and hand sew small rips. The days that I do not volunteer at the thrift store, I help my now aged grandmother with her business, alternating clothes and learning from her. …show more content…

It has been my number one priority to maintain a grade point average of a 4.0 to increase the likelihood of getting accepted into The Art Institute of Atlanta, as an incentive I was recently recognized as an honor student. Once my senior year came into sight, I felt highly motivated to attend Georgia Northwestern Technical Collage dual enrollment classes available at my school. My FBLA leader, Alecia Kelley quickly realized my potential. Mrs. Kelley encouraged me to participate in our town’s small business program called Biz Builders. After attending this class, I soon realized my sales began improving and I had been inspired to develop my business plan as a fashion
