How Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
By Sienna Hollis how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a look back in time all the way to the early 1900’s to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971.

Coco Chanel made the use of faux jewellery and brought everyday, less expensive pieces popular through gold and fake pearls. The jewellery was made from beads, glass and chains and was made to be worn daily with casual clothing. Coco believed that women should be able to buy more affordable pieces that are wearable and that they can accessories with everything, rather than only possessing a few, precious pieces of jewellery.

The 2.55 handbag was another piece that changed the fashion world by making the handbag more practical. In the early 1920s, Coco began to grow tired of carrying her bags in her hands and decided to create a bag that made use of her arms. In this time the common bag that was used is what we call a clutch now, a bag without any straps or handles. She was inspired to use straps on her new handbags for convenience by the straps that are found on soldiers bags. She often saw soldiers around her as she was designing during the war and continued to after. Eventually she added small, thin straps to the design and released the original 2.55 bag in early 1929. But when Coco returned to the fashion industry in the mid 1950s, she decided she didn't like the original handbag so she updated and modified her design, creating the 2.55 handbag that we know
