Management and Leadership roles in Coach According to (Steven L. McShane, 2011) ethics is the study of principles or values that we use to determine whether an action performed by us or someone else is right or wrong. The ethical values that the organization has can either promote a good culture in which everyone chooses the right action, for example, they carry out the best action not for the good of themselves but for the betterment of the company. In order to have a positive atmosphere in which the employees can effectively carry out the goals of the organization there has to be a strong, positive, organizational culture in which ethics can have a large role in determining. For Coach having an adaptive culture in an industry where competition is stiff is definitely a positive, this also allows them to successfully meet the demands of not only their stakeholders but most importantly the consumers. Before we go into depth of what forces whether internal or external can influence the culture we need to understand just exactly what organizational culture is. According to (Steven L. McShane, 2011) organizational culture “consists of shared values and assumptions.” At Coach the employees all share the same goal stated in their mission statement which is “we integrate individuality and teamwork.” If the values and shared assumptions of employees are not aligned with that of the company’s goal then this can cause problems in defining and building a positive organizational culture. According to (Nash, 1983) he stated that “An effective climate is one that emphasizes achievement, personal goal setting, and a sense of individual responsibility.” For this to be achievable the upper management has to practice good ethics and stay true to the goals of the organization while trying to maintain the existing climate. For one of Coaches designer Reed Krakoff his office is “Decorated with inspirations boards that include Photos of a Naguchi sculpture.” Krakoff, whom according to (Thompson, 2005) “Mr. Krakoff, 41, now president and executive creative director, is largely credited with a company turnaround.” The Leaders and Management of Coach maintain a creative and positive climate within coach Inc. Creativity is paramount for the Coach Company “Handbags make up almost 65% of the business and a single style can bring in more than $40 million in global retail sales a year.” (Betts, 2006). The management in this case let the employees feel more empowered by giving them authority over their day to day work which in this business situation is a necessary in order to have a creative workforce. Another way of maintain the culture of Coach is by having a direct flow of information from the top down, in other words if the company chooses an action then implementing them follows shortly after.
