Classroom Observation Paper

Over the course of the semester, we were asked to maintain a record of our observations of comprehension and composition learning tasks that take place in our classrooms. Luckily, I was placed in the Leighton Learning Community so I attend Leighton elementary school, right down the road from the college. This is an amazing experience because I am able to spend a lot more time inside the classroom, which also results in me observing many things I would not normally in a regular block two placement. Instead of the standard one day a week for three hours, I spend my entire day at the school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am in a fifth grade classroom at Leighton Elementary. The third station involves using Google Classroom. The students have to watch a video regarding what they are learning in any of their subjects, and then post a short response to a question posed by the teacher on Google Classroom. I think this is definitely a great way to incorporate technology that is beneficial to the student into the classroom. The last station is having the students reading a good fit book independently to themselves. I thought this was a great set-up at the beginning of the semester, however my views have changed. Although the students are supposed to pick a good fit book, many of the students do not unfortunately and the host teacher never really checks to make sure the books are at an appropriate level for the …show more content…

Additionally, I would tend to ask questions during his planning periods about how he put together his lessons, and how he went about grading the students work. My host teacher stated that most of his lessons come directly from EngageNY, and this is evident based on the worksheets and topics covered. I noticed that he strictly follows the modules, topics, and lessons on the website. He even has a binder where they are all printed out and located.
