The Defining Journey

The Journal of Christopher Columbus, was the first voyage and most positive of encounters with the people of the new world the Americas. After leaving from the city of Granada on the 12th of May, 1492 sailing west with three sea vessels. On Thursday the 11th of October after encountering the heaviest seas during the voyage, they began to notice parselas and a green rush near the base of the vessels. In that afternoon the Pinta crew saw “a cane and a log; they also picked up a stick which appeared to have been carved with an iron tool” reviving their hope in the admiral. They came off in the poor nature all going completely naked even for the woman of the island, except for one girl. All of which in the population of the island were young none over the age of thirty. Describing them in a fine matter with fine body shapes and faces, and long think hair pulled to the back. Many of which would paint their body’s and faces in a variety of colors. For as the men of the island were all of good size and stature, and all being handsomely formed. Indeed some had scars and wounds over their bodies from protecting themselves. Despite that they stated they received them from surrounding island that tired making prisoners of them, the admiral firmly believes they are from the continent. The fact that they portray to be ingenious people they showed not being acquainted to weapons in any form. Having nothing more than sticks with fish bones being truly amazed by the sight of the swords, cutting themselves out of ignorance. As well as not appearing to have any form of religion, they were very quick learners on picking up words spoken to them. They became such a liking to the admiral he wanted to take back a hand full of them to be servants.
