I was pleasantly surprised by the many ways in which Developing a Christian Mind not only changed myself and my perspectives, but also shaped my first semester of college. I was deeply affected by my newly gained understanding of a Christian worldview. Having gone to a Christian high school, I was very familiar with the term “worldview” but truly had little understanding of its significance. In high school, a Christian worldview was an end goal; something my teachers wanted to send me off to college with, not something through which I experienced the world. One of the greatest changes for me was when I started to approach worldview as not a list of objectives and standards to meet, but a way to live my life. Though I did not pay them much mind until studying for the midterm, once I knew them enough to apply them it not only improved my work in other classes but also made my discussions with others more fruitful. After the midterm, I posted the steps for critical thinking above my desk and used them as a guide to test writing assignments and class work. When revising my term papers for two different classes I was able to use the principles of clarity, relevance, depth, logic, and the others to test the value of my writing and improve it through higher levels of critical thinking. Even more exciting was being able to apply those same steps to conversations and discussions with others. By asking others to elaborate or give more details, I have been able to gain a greater understanding of their perspective and views. Asking myself if I can look at the idea from another perspective, or if I am being sympathetic of other viewpoints also helped my own responses to be more fair and valuable. I hope that having a basis for critical thinking will help me to use my mind well and think more and more critically as I
