Christianity is the most common religion in the world, and the music inspired by it has healed the internal wounds of countless individuals. Christianity spreads from the west to some parts of the east where numerous people identify themselves as Muslim. It is no secret that Muslim and Christian cultures have vast differences; however, when it comes to music they share more than people think. This essay will compare the music of Christian and Muslim music. Christian music has been around for centuries, and comes in all styles and backgrounds. During the baroque period (1600-1750) and baroque period (, composers often incorporated bible verses in the chorus and throughout their pieces. Also, a very famous work from George Frederic Handel (1685-1759), “Messiah” (1741) which means “Christ”, is one of the many classical works with Christian influence. Other composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach composed, Mass in B minor (1749), a choral work in Latin that praised God and pleaded to the Lord for mercy. Christian rock, Christian hip hop, or Christian pop, also known as gospel, are a few of today’s more mainstream Christian genres. Since it is not only for enjoyment, the words to contemporary Christian songs are more significant than the sound itself; thus, contemporary Christian music has the freedom to incorporate different types of music into one; for example, gospel music is a combination of secular music, a hint of jazz and soul music all merged together with a Christian-like message.
