1. What is the name of your organisation?
The organisation that I have chosen to research is Caritas Australia. It is a non-profit international aid and development agency of the Catholic Church in Australia. Their motto is to help “end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity” for the poor so they won’t need to rely on charities anymore. Furthermore, the international symbol of Caritas is a flaming cross which represents Christ’s burning love for his people.
2. Where does it operate?
Caritas Australia helps marginalised people in over 35 countries around the world including areas like Africa, Asia, Latin America, Australia, the Pacific and the Middle East. It is also involved in an international network consisting of over 200 countries
In some ways, Kellie’s depiction was entirely bias and unfair, as to the choice of footage used; there was no indication of the various charities that aim to alleviate poverty within Australia, including: Salvos, Anglicare and St Vincent de Paul. This is entirely symbolic of how the media falsely depicts those in poverty, with the pure aim of entertaining the audience, showing a complete lack of empathy. Similarly, the concept of disrespect was evident in tourists that we saw at the public restaurants we visited throughout the journey; some were excessively drinking, whilst others were littering or using obscene language at local Khmer people. From a personal perspective, a lack of understanding between any individuals, whether they are disadvantaged or advantaged, contradicts Christian values and ideals, making the producer and the other tourists somewhat disrespectful and uncompassionate towards the Mt Druitt and Cambodian community
Today I am writing to share a few important changes that are taking place at AmeriHealth Caritas.

We as individuals alongside the Catholic Church play a crucial role in being able to make a difference in not only the lives of people experiencing homelessness but also to the lives of people who are more disregarded in society. The Catholic Church already undertakes many charity works and distributing of goods to help those around us but with the supporting help of communities and us as individuals we are able to reinforce this idea to help create a stronger more equal society. As individuals we are able to strengthen these ideas through things such as participating in charity works that are being held and giving a helping hand to those around us but a key form of difference we are able to make is mainly by educating those around us about the social justice issues that surround us daily.
Volunteering for a poverty program, policy group, or community service organization is an experience that will educate oneself and endure an involvement with those who may be in need of assistance for a period of time. When deciding where I wanted to do my volunteer experience for the class I wanted to make sure that I found experience that I would learn from. There were a variety of places that I could choose from that were in the area. For my experience I chose to volunteer at a salvation army in my hometown Springfield, Oh. This is an organizational group that provides services to those who are poor in a variety of ways. The Salvation Army is an organization that has several different branches in various locations. This branch helps in a variety of ways by having summer camps for children, social service programs that offer assistance with topics such as bills, food, clothing, furniture and a variety of other resources. They also provide several different opportunities around Christmas to help with the different assistant groups that they have available.
On behalf of 85% of the country's Christians, it could prove to be the country's most influential lobby group. The council has made proposals to governments on behalf of member churches. It has lobbied governments about the dole, the GST on food and boosting the Aboriginal health budget. It has intensely spoken out against the Australian government's policy of detaining refugees and has requested for children to be freed from detention camps.
The Community Insights section located in the center of the HOME page has been created to provide generalist information, tips and resources on a range of cultures with high numbers of care recipients and care workers in Australia.
A Non Governmental Organization that works for human rights issues that interested me is, Amnesty International. I have been hearing many good things about this organization, so I decided to find out for myself what Amnesty International really does for human rights. My mind was blown away at how much they do to further human rights after my research. It is an organization that fights for civilians caught in the crossfire between warring groups, fights for a total ban on torture, and fights against any form of discrimination.
This organization is a partnered-based charity that brings the church and community together to look after more than one hundred forty-three million orphans worldwide and five hundred thousand American foster children. They also provide food and clean water to over four thousand five hundred children to help fight against famine and disease. This organization helps with adoptions, foster care, orphan care and humanitarian relief services. These acts give high protein food, clean water, medical, educational and spiritual programs. So I’d like to donate that great sum to help children who deserve a better
There are several organizations that are found to help people around the world. One organization is the Good Shepherd of North America or the Sisters of Good Shepherd, although it did not just begin like that. The reason it was founded was to help people, especially those who do not have a place to stay or are struggling. Let us first start with the Sisters of Good Shepherd which was founded by Five Sisters, under the name of Our Lady Charity of the Good Shepherd in 1835. The reason the Sisters of Good Shepherd are important is because they are the reason Good Shepherd has established, and it also started there while it began in Louisville, Kentucky on December 1st of 1842. It began as a way to help children, women, and families, especially
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been the first nations, which represented the whole Australian population, for centuries. However, the continuous European colonization has severely affected these peoples and, over the decades, their unique values and cultures, which enriched the life of Australian nation and communities, were not respected and discriminated by numerous restrictive policies. As a result, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have turned into the voiceless minority of the Australian population. Fortunately, in recent years, these issues became the concern of the Australian government, promoting a slight improvement in the well being of native Australians. Nowadays, there are numerous social work
First, starting organizations can have a major impact. They collect food and they give it away to the people who needs it most. Anyone can donate and its for any homeless person, and this has no cost. These organizations can go in big cities, such as Washington D.C, or maybe even New York City. These locations have
The churches in the world play a huge role in the determination to access of food, clean water, and shelter. No matter what religious affiliation, people will donate money to churches to help this growing problem that has arisen. This is important because churches are a good way to give those in need the supplies they need. The churches give the money raised by the offerings that people donate. This is effective because there are so many churches around the world. If most people donate a little bit of money, a substantial amount of people will be helped. The Christ House is a p...
The reformation of the Charity Organizations didn’t grant relief themselves however they served as a resource to simplify the transaction of relief to relief applicants by: maintaining relief applicant requests, records of the aid given to them, and referring those worthy or unworthy to the proper agencies (Trattner, 1999). Their goal was to eradicate fraud and duplicity of services while also maintaining efficiency and treating poverty. The charity organization movement intended to treat poverty by enacting “friendly visitors” to look into each case and define the cause of destitution while also watching for overlapping relief. These “friendly visitors” and their investigations were the cornerstone of the Charity Organization Society’s (C.O.S) treatment; granting aid without investigation was like giving medicine without diagnosis (Trattner, 1999).
Another reason why I’m doing this project is because people want to provide support for specific types of people, or who simply want to start there own charity with there own causes and goals, for people who want to simply provide for people with specific sicknesses, for example AIDS/HIV or Lung cancer, or maybe who live in specific areas who need support, like Sierra Leone or New Guinea, because these are the places where there is a lot of poverty, people can barely get a bite of food without doing something drastic, some work in diamond mines, where they get very little money, where the diamond that they just mined was worth one million dollars, they are v...
