Mind What were some common assumptions and judgements you had about Child Welfare (CW) before this course? How have they changed and, are there some you are still challenged by? The assumptions I had about child welfare at the beginning of this class was that child welfare is not a good system and it was full of mostly bad workers and child welfare was mostly CAS. However I also know that like most social work fields, child welfare is underfunded and potentially understaffed as well. I had believe this because there are I had heard many second-hand accounts about how bad the encounter was and how the worker was an idiot or evil. The thing that blinded my vision was the fact I’ve heard many stories of how CAS were of bad workers and how they were bad for families. This course widened my view by showing how child welfare is more than CAS, and by bringing in child welfare workers we learned that CAS is not always corrupt and that there are many ways to help families, including community based. I see that many CAS deals a lot with anger parents when their trying to help with their families, but I also see how CAS workers build a relationship with the families to help them …show more content…

Based of my understanding that because Canada is a multicultural country that there are going to be many types of family units and parenting styles. I also know that family units change and adjust due to trauma and dilemmas the family goes through. What I would tell people now about child welfare is how many changes child welfare is going though, and how many programs are pushing for change and more aware future social workers.
