The documentary film Child of Rage (1992) shows that people that are abused may have issues throughout their life and socialization problems during their early childhood. It tries to show us that the behavior of a person is directly related to their upbringing. People may develop social characters based on how they were treated in their childhood. The reason why I think this way is because the plot of the movie is developed from a real life story of a young child whose parents mistreated her. Consequently, the child adopted an antisocial behavior, high level of aggression towards people and low self-esteem (Larry, 1992).
The film shows the effects on a person if he or she does not acquire knowledge and skills of socialization. I think that the movie is educative and tries to communicate on the importance of treating children in the right way and helping them to grow up morally. It teaches the audience about the socially unbecoming behavior from children who do not get a moral upbringing and were harassed and abused by their parents. I tend to think in this manner because the plot of the movie is very elaborate on the factors leading to the antisocial behavior of Beth. People with behaviors such as aggression, social withdrawal and low self-esteem among children have a psychological disorder. Such behaviors need a keen psychological approach to correct the disorder. Although the plot of the film concentrates on discussing Beth’s case, it is a representation of many other cases that go unreported. Most people grow in stable families where parents are loving and supportive and have no idea of the social behavior of a child who does not receive love and support.
