Discussion encompasses this promotion on account of its claim that a truck can make you “more handsome, more dependable and more rugged.” Real people and not actors were asked a about these claims. “Including kids, mature people, young single women, rich housewives and guys with beards.” Two pictures were shown, both in which the location and person is the same, the only difference is the vehicle. The questions asked were: “Which guy is more handsome? Which man is sexier? Which one of these two guys would you rather have date your daughter? What kind of pet will this guy have? If this guy could grow facial hair, what will he grow? In a zombie apocalypse? Which guy is cooler?” They have concluded that based on the responses of twelve groups questioned in two days that truck guys are “85% more handsome, 76% more resourceful and 100% more likely to have a pet.” Only one of the claims made by Chevrolet is proven to be true, a truck can make you more handsome. The people didn’t find the truck dependable but rather found it to be resourceful, which based on the meaning and their definitions those two things are not the same. Also, they didn’t find the truck to be rugged, they found it to be edgy in a sense, considering the fact that someone with a truck is more likely to have an awesome pet as concluded by the ad.
