Charisma itself is not genetically inclined and cannot be learned; however, it can be developed based on the passionate skill set one already obtains. Charisma can be defined as a special charm or appeal that causes people to feel attracted and excited by someone. "Charisma." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 28 Mar. 2014. . Therefore, charisma is an essential characteristic of charismatic leadership.

INSPIRE

The nature of an effective leader is to portray self-confidence, integrity, enthusiasm, courage, moral commitment, emotional connection, and drive, as well as having an optimistic point of view. Having the title of a leader is more than attaining a set of leadership skills; being a leader also relies on personal qualities that may be hard to see, but are very powerful-such as charisma (Daft, p.18).

A charismatic leader creates an emotional impact on people which inspires them to go above and beyond in any task. Such leaders gain followers through their source of influence from their personal characteristics rather than power or their position of authority. Martin Luther King, Jr. is an example of a well-known charismatic leader. Not only did he passionately articulate a vision of equality among the people, but he also made personal sacrifices to help achieve his vision that appealed to how the people were feeling more than what they thought. Charismatic leaders can raise people’s consciousness about new possibilities and motivate them to transcend their own interest for the sake of the team, department, organization, or in this example, the people. (Daft. p. 364).
