The characters in Pride and Prejudice are incredibly developed and are written in wonderful style. The protagonist of the book is Elizabeth Bennet who is a very high spirited and opinionated person who has no problem speaking her mind. Jane Bennet, Elizabeth 's older sister, who while she is a secondary character, is very important to the story and helps to drive the story forward with her sub plat which adds to the plot of the book. another background character whose secondary story is intertwined with Jane 's story, his name is Charles Bingley, commonly referred to as Mr. Bingley in the book. The story of Pride and Prejudice starts with a ball, this is the first time that Elizabeth and Jane met Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley . While Jane and Mr. Bingley immediately began to take a liking to each other, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy certainly did not enjoy each others company, as upon their first meeting, Mr. Darcy had gravely insulted her with comments about her looks and also by not asking her to dance. Over the course of the next few meetings, Elizabeth,s hatred of Mr. Darcy grew until she could not see past her hatred of Darcy to any of his good qualities or his personality. A few weeks after these happening Jane Caught a sickness from riding to Mr. Bingley 's estate in the rain. There She stayed for weeks with poor health. Elizabeth came to stay with her during this time to bring her comfort.while staying with Jane at Mr. Bingley 's, Elizabeth spent more time with Mr. Darcy and the rest of the inhabitants at the house. During the time Elizabeth was there, Mr. Darcy was slowly growing fond of Elizabeth 's good humor and charm, even though her opinion was not changed and she still thought of him in disgust. Collins was visiting, he asks Elizabeth to marry him, and when she turns him down, he goes to Charlotte, a friend of Elizabeth’s and asks her to marry him. Charlotte although she does not love Mr. Collins, thinks more rationally than Elizabeth and agrees to marry him. After they are married and leave town, life continues as normal, until the end of summer when Mr. Bingley leaves for business in London and is convinced to stay there for the winter by Mr. Darcy and the rest of his friends, because they told him that they did not believe Jane loved him. But in actuality upon discovering that Mr. Bingley had left Jane was heartbroken. Nothing of importance happened again until Elizabeth went to visit Charlotte and Mr. Collins.
