“Chapter 4” of No Promises in the Wind begins with the author, Irene Hunt, placing Josh in deep thought, for he was always thinking of what his next meal would be. Ever since he ran away from home, he became more responsible each and every day. Being ignorant and imprudent was no longer an option, for he had to consider the well-being of his brother. All of Josh’s aspirations, hopes, and dreams vanish when he realizes the detrimental situation that he and his brother are in. Realizing that the chances of him getting a job had been extinguished, Josh fell into a spiral of regret, anguish, and lament, for he did not know what to do. Consequently, Josh and Joey resort to begging, for it was the only way to survive. Although Josh feels guilty for letting his little brother do all the work, he is grateful for the things that people give had compassion on them. Moreover, Josh knows that Joey could always do a better job of being desirous than he could.
