Chameleons : Do We Benefit From Them ? What happens when the First Amendment starts affecting the public in a negative way? For 226 years, the citizens of the United States have had the right to free speech and throughout these decades, the First Amendment has been an law that can be seen as a valued feature separates compared to other states. Freedom of Speech is a tool to benefit the people, a way so that the public could be heard. Yet, these past generations have abused the power of free speech. It’s an issue that has become harder to resolve since it interferes with Constitution. According to “Do Politicians Lie More Today”, the author, Maria Clemmitt, a veteran social-policy reporter, confirms that it is certain that politicians are capable of lying and blending in with the public and can still get away with it due to the First Amendment. Politics use lying as a strategy in order to obtain power. That is their goal and their purpose of combining camouflage and lying. It’s seen in the article with the examples provided by Maria Clemmitts that for years, politicians have been throwing false accusations towards other political members in order so that candidate can be looked as a better politician. This false information leads to mislead votes, and the result is the public being used for politicians benefit: money and power. What is commonly seen with High School students is that they lean towards these lying politicians because of their money. These students believe that money is a way of fitting in and if their elected leaders have power then they can benefit from that. Take a look out Donald Trump for example. Throughout the 2017 presidential election, Trump had a whole lot to say about Hillary Clinton and the issues he believed was wrong with the government. For those he manipulated, he made them believe just because he had money that the rest of the United States would prosper from it. Take a look at today, what has he done to benefit the United States? All work done by him is to gain him and other fellow politicians money and power. As a recent graduate from High School, these accusations made come from experience seen from fellow classmates who voted Donald Trump as a “joke”. As funny as this joke is, now the United States has a President with one of the lowest presidential rating percentages, because the public fell for the manipulations of people obscuring their true identities and intentions.
