Automobiles are such a fascinating breakthrough in technology, almost everyone has one or has access to one for transportation. There are however a lot of concerns that come with this advancement for it impacts our environment greatly in a negative form; the emissions of vehicles not to mention the making of them and the debris that comes off the tires and brake pads that travel into our nearby soil. Just being on the same page of the standards run by the ELV Directive is crucial for the automotive industry on a global scale. The International Materials Data System (IMDS) was created by the ELV to perform a database to collect all the information of the materials used in making the vehicles being developed (Five Winds International, 2003, p.35).
Now automobile industries are competing with one another to bring about the next environment efficient vehicle for consumers. BMW—a German made vehicle—set themselves a goal to increase the rising percentage of recyclates such as plastic in their vehicles (Five Winds
International, 2003, p.39) “The company recognizes that ‘the use of plastics is increasing’ and
‘recyclability of the materials becomes more important’ for this reason” (Five Winds
International, 2003, p.39) The company possesses a substantial amount of recycled products in their new cars to be up to date with the ELV Directive. The company respects the procedures of this new found way to build vehicles by currently being the only car manufacturer to have recycling assignments that are only for certified contract partners (Five Winds
