World War 1
World War I, also known as The Great War, wasn’t the most destructive war, or the first total war, and even though it was meant to be the world that ends all wars, it certainly wasn’t the last but it was the war that changed all wars. Most people see World War I as a tragedy because it could have been greatly avoided and didn’t accomplish anything except creating social and economic conditions that made World War II possible (Goldstein). The immediate cause of this war was the assassination in Sarajevo of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 by a Bosnian Serb nationalist. This assassination led Austria to issue a warning to Serbia, where Serbia accepted some but not all of Austria’s demands and drove Austria to declare …show more content…

The first part of their revolution was aimed to overthrow the Romanov dynasty. A new government replaced the monarchy which the leader made the decision to keep Russia in the war. This led to the second part of the revolution to where Vladimir Lenin and his Bolsheviks took over promising the Russian people peace, food, and land. Lenin signed a separate peace with Germany and got Russia out of the war. The U.S. entered the war on the side of the British and the French leading to another outcome of the war. The U.S. was already becoming a hegemonic power and being able to avoid the destruction and loss of manpower associated with World War I didn’t hurt the U.S. The war helped catapult the U.S. from being a debtor nation to a creditor one, and Wilson’s leading role in the negotiations at Versailles, even though he actually didn’t get what he wanted, made America a big player on the world stage for the first time. Another outcome from the war was the end of the Ottoman empire and the emergence of the nation-state of Turkey. Wars after World War I still became necessary, but it no longer had the romanticized ideals that came with war in the past.
