On July 15, 2008, grandmother Cindy Anthony notifies the Orange County Sheriff’s Office of the disappearance of her 2-year-old granddaughter, Caylee Anthony. The 911 call to the sheriff’s office comes just two days after Cindy and her husband, George Anthony, had received a letter in the mail notifying them that their daughter and the mother of Caylee, Casey Anthony’s car had been towed. Upon receiving this information, Cindy contacted Casey to further question her about the whereabouts of her granddaughter Caylee. At this time Casey admitted that she had not seen Caylee in 31 days after leaving her with a babysitter named Zenaida "Zanny" Fernandez-Gonzalez. (Biography.com Editors, n.d.) Not to mention the precautionary measures believed to be taken by Casey Anthony to conceal the decomposition of Caylee that is believed to have occurred in the trunk of her car with the inclusion of a bag of decomposing trash.. Precautionary acts as defined by Turvey, are meant to hamper or defeat investigative or forensic efforts (Turvey, 2012). Although a verdict of not guilty on the accounts of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child was rendered in the capital murder trial of Casey Anthony, cutting edge forensic evidence based off of the odor-analysis technique identified 41 compounds out of 424 compounds that are associated with decomposition. Furthermore, FBI laboratory results annotated that 67% of the compounds found in the air of the trunk were associated with human decomposition and not of decomposing garbage. In conjunction with the air samples, insects associated with decaying matter were identified but they too can be associated with human garbage. Therefore, the actually presence of insects does not confirm presence of decomposition in the trunk. Lastly, A stained paper towel was found with the characteristic for adipocere. Adipocere is the breakdown of fat by water in an oxygen-deprived environment. The association of the adipocere profile to human fat was too disputed as fatty acids found in the trash may have been the contributor. (Crime Museum,

The controversial case received significant media attention for several months, captivating the imaginations of people from coast to coast and causing nationwide debate and speculation as to what may have occurred. My homicide case began when the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) received a call from a male caller via 911 reporting he found a body of a black male found in a park near a cul-de-sac in a residential area. I was dispatched and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, I began steps documenting the crime scene. I initiated a rough sketch of the scene and initiated my field notes. A cordon was initiated as I began identifying possible evidence and identifying witnesses and suspects. I canvassed the area and found four 9mm shell casings near the body.

In society, if your child went missing, you would report it and be a frantic mother or father trying everything to find their beloved child. She seemed to not even be worried; like she did not care. On trial, she then said how Caylee Anthony had drowned in a pool at her parents’ house. If Caylee Anthony had drowned why did she not call 911? Anthony then goes on to claim that her father did sexual things with her and that he had hid Caylee’s Anthony body in the woods, afraid people would think Anthony was a horrible mother (CNN
1 – Question #1: (Ch 5) Child abuse intersects with the juvenile justice system in many ways including but not limited to - sexual abuse, child neglect, family violence, and internet exploitation. One of the most important issues to address when related to the juvenile justice system is child neglect. The questions for the courts to ponder evolve around the mental state of the juvenile, the potential for physical violence when placed in an adult prison environment, as well as the emotional impact of incarceration with an adult population. Steinberg L, Scott E, 2003).

“Phillip Garrido pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping and 13 counts of sexual assault and was sentenced to 431 years in prison” (Dooley, 2016). Phillip Garrido’s wife Nancy “plead to one count of kidnapping, one count of rape by force and California’s ‘one strike’ rape law which led to her sentence of 36 years to life in prison” (Dooley, 2016). Shortly after the incident, the Dugard family was awarded twenty-million dollars for failed parole supervision. Jaycee Dugard has grown and moved on from her incident with her two daughters. She has reported that it is easier to laugh about what has happened to her because it helps deter from the actual horrors she went through. Dugard has also given her daughters the permission to want to know him if they would like to with the comfort that as long as he is locked away her family would be safe. Since her kidnapping, Jaycee Dugard has published two books and is working on her
The legal system in the United States doesn’t have a lot of gray areas when it comes to murder cases, usually someone’s going to jail at the end of the day. However there are certain cases involving children where the law needs to be viewed with exceptions. Sometimes the laws need to bring new ideas and concepts into consideration that weren’t thought of when the laws were originally written. For instance in most cases when an adult kills another adult, the adult who killed the other person will be convicted and sent to prison. But in the cases of when a young child kills another person the law cannot be too quick to convict them due to many discoveries in the field of childhood development. A young child ages 2-6 is still developing biologically,
