Workplace Case: Problem Background: It has been mentioned by the lifestyle team that they feel under pressure when there is an activity on their agenda (which they have to conduct for residents of the aged care facility). Meetings were held with residents and staff to discuss the issue. The pressure and stress was higher than staff could bear which is why we had recently number of sick leaves. Before I joined the team the routine for team has been that the activities were set by the coordinator and staff had to conduct it. There was no time prior to activities for staff to plan and prepare the resources. This had made the job both for me as coordinator and staff to be stressful since staff did not have time to actively design and plan an activity and it was becoming coordinator’s job to think on behalf of all staff and do the planning and devising activities. This did put some pressure on staff since until then they were used to just following the program without having to think about what is best to do which was against the “person-centred care” way of doing things. Before the change we had a high absenteeism rate compared to what was the norm in the workplace which could have been contributed to the higher level of perceived stress amongst the lifestyle team members. It was noted that staff have shown signs of burning out in form of increase of absenteeism and also lack of proactivity at work. It needs to be mentioned that this new initiative has recently implemented by the lifestyle team at Corpus Christi Aged Care Facility and it is in its trial
