Unsafe Waters and Why Recently, there has been a number of ludicrous news reports involving the Carolina Beaches. Sharks have been preying on humans a little bit more than normal. Months before shark week even begun they were all over the news and internet. The cause of the sharks close to shore is the consistent seventies temperature in the east coast. The effect ... well the number of shark attacks increasing in this decade. The big question of the summer was to deal with the sharks and also enjoy family vacation. Each decade has had an increase in the amount of shark attacks than the previous one. The Florida attacks were all minor injuries with reports about bites on their feet or calf. All of those interactions with younger adults which seems to be a trend in Florida. Meanwhile, in North Carolina the story got more graphic. June 11 a 13 year old was bit in the foot and her boogie board was torn in half. Three days later two attacks happened within hours of each other, a 12 year old and 16 year old had life threatening injuries. Keirsten Yow, 12, lost part of her arm and also had injuries in her left leg requiring rehabilitation. About ninety minutes later Hunter Treschl, 16, was bitten and also lost his arm but his whole arm. As the report shows it seem likes the attacks happened just miles away from Yow’s incident. Hunter said “I saw the shark on my left arm. It was half way up my biscep , kind of. Bright colors and patterns are always a trend especially in recent years so maybe there should be warning tags on bathing suits with dangerous print. Even being careful of tan lines because to a shark they can resemble color variations on fish. Third, many people should try not to swim in murky dirty water or in water where you cannot see around you. A lot of simple tasks can prevent attacks that many people just do not pay attention to. Sharks have also been subjected to medical research, games and competitions, jewellery, souvenirs and cosmetics. We need to take into consideration that sharks play a vital role in the natural world that we live in. it is imperative that we look after these majestic creatures and ensure they remain protected. We need to be aware of the dangers of sharks, swim in protected areas where there are shark nets, and do not swim after dark in the sea (especially not alone) as the sea is the sharks home. Humans should also be wearing wet suits as protection in the ocean. The sea is where they live, they swim freely and they eat – they do not particularly target humans but rather prey on food that is available to them in their habitat.
The bull shark may be responsible for many shark attacks in the world but I believe that we have no right to kill them. Sharks are very important to animals food cycles and if the food cycles get messed up it can greatly effect the world. In fact, the bull shark is more vulnerable to human impact due to their ability to live in fresh and salt water but many sharks that are killed are for either shark fin soup or their liver oil. The sharks liver oil has many uses now but it started as a machine lubricant. Another way that sharks die is by recreational fishing. The sharks can get caught up in the fishermen's nets and eventually suffocate and die. On the other hand, jellyfish and sharks cause fear in beachgoers because their attacks can lead to painful and life threatening injuries. Swimmers in Hawaii are often victimized by box jellyfish. The stings hurt quite a bit and cause an unpleasant burning sensation. Some people even suffer from a severe allergic reaction to the toxin and are hospitalized (“Dangers in Hawaii”). People may also be hospitalized from shark attacks. Three to four shark attacks occur each year in Hawaii, usually resulting in only the loss of an appendage. However, numerous shark sightings as close as twenty yards away from shore to as far as out at sea have been reported. Jan TenBruggencate’s article, "A Shark Bites off Left Arm of Teenage Kauai Surfer,” tells the story of thirteen-year-old Bethany Hamilton who fell victim to a shark attack in October of 2003. While surfing in Hawaii, a shark estimated to be 12 to 15 feet long bit into Bethany’s surfboard and took a majority of her left arm. Even though humans get injured and occasionally killed by sharks, this is much more uncommon than many people think. In the video, "Great White Predator," it states, "[Sharks] mainly eat one thing: seals," (“National Geographic”). Shark attacks are much less likely to occur than people may think. In fact, Peter Benchley says, "Around the world many, many more people die every year from bee stings, snakebites, falling off ladders, or drowning in bathtubs than from shark attack[s]," (“Great White Sharks”). People have a greater chance of dying while doing everyday chores than from sharks.

They are often misinterpreted as scary and violent creatures, however this is merely due to media. Shark based films such as Jaw show that these sharks are harmful when they really aren't. Tapes/recordings of sharks slaughtering humans are published so often because of its actual unusualness.
Shark slaughter is a cruel and violent act, to say the least. Granted that there is economical profit to be had from shark finning, the massive loss incomparably outweighs the profit. Most, if not, all humans would not enjoy having their limbs cut off and being left to die. It is simply inhumane and brutal. However sharks are experiencing this very thing, and the fact that they cannot express or protect themselves, is leading to the death of hundreds of millions of innocent sharks annually. Odds are that as you are reading this, a shark was killed. While sharks may not be the most adorable animals on the planet, they certainly are living creatures, and they feel pain just like us.
In 2015 only 59 shark attacks have occurred around the world compared to the millions of sharks killed by humans every year. Due to these accidental shark attacks people tend to think that sharks, especially Great Whites are evil creatures with malice intentions when attacks do occur; but, on the contrary that is wrong. Sharks are not the only beautiful and unique creatures in the ocean, they also play a vital role in our ecosystem; however, due to human interference they might not be around much longer, through awareness sharks can be protected from endangerment.

Hundreds of people, who get in the ocean every year, are almost none that encounter sharks. Even if you're lucky enough to see a shark big enough to bite you, you're much likely to die from a heart attack than getting bit by one. Shark attacks are mistakes and the idea of a shark off every beach waiting for people to come in the water is completely untrue. I will inform you on the background knowledge of sharks and the reasons why humans should not be afraid only aware.

People from all over the world go to beautiful beaches that are filled with water as clear as ice or as beautiful as diamonds. But, what will happen if we do not conserve the appealing sites that draw attraction to the public? Contaminated beaches has become a controversial issue to the public because of the causal problem, the harm to the people and marine animals, the government agencies supporting or opposing pollution, and the industries involved in creating such unlawful decisions. To create and find a solution, we must first find the core to the problem.
