Unsafe Waters and Why Recently, there has been a number of ludicrous news reports involving the Carolina Beaches. Sharks have been preying on humans a little bit more than normal. Months before shark week even begun they were all over the news and internet. The cause of the sharks close to shore is the consistent seventies temperature in the east coast. The effect ... well the number of shark attacks increasing in this decade. The big question of the summer was to deal with the sharks and also enjoy family vacation. Each decade has had an increase in the amount of shark attacks than the previous one. The Florida attacks were all minor injuries with reports about bites on their feet or calf. All of those interactions with younger adults which seems to be a trend in Florida. Meanwhile, in North Carolina the story got more graphic. June 11 a 13 year old was bit in the foot and her boogie board was torn in half. Three days later two attacks happened within hours of each other, a 12 year old and 16 year old had life threatening injuries. Keirsten Yow, 12, lost part of her arm and also had injuries in her left leg requiring rehabilitation. About ninety minutes later Hunter Treschl, 16, was bitten and also lost his arm but his whole arm. As the report shows it seem likes the attacks happened just miles away from Yow’s incident. Hunter said “I saw the shark on my left arm. It was half way up my biscep , kind of. Bright colors and patterns are always a trend especially in recent years so maybe there should be warning tags on bathing suits with dangerous print. Even being careful of tan lines because to a shark they can resemble color variations on fish. Third, many people should try not to swim in murky dirty water or in water where you cannot see around you. A lot of simple tasks can prevent attacks that many people just do not pay attention to. For instance, swimming alone or in waters where there has been recent shark attacks. If people were more aware of the attacks and how it could happen to anyone maybe there would not be as
