I went for the Career Network Event and it was a great learning experience for me. I went there trying to apply everything that I learned from my job search class and it was a success. Because I had the chance to speak to the employer of my interest, and I everything went as planned, I remember my professor in class told us to make sure we have a goal and to know which company that we would like to work for and just go for it. I went in there and I did the exact thing that he told us. I remember before taking this class I used to try to speak to every single one of employer and then I put everything in one folder. Later on when I went to contact the job that I was interested in, I would get all the employers mixed up and because of that, that cost me a lot of jobs that I always wanted in the past.

Truck driving is a much needed career to help transport goods across the United States and other local areas. Commercial Truck Driving is the career I choose to uphold. Trucking is a way of transportation needed to keep business going. Trucking has been a part of my family for years so I fell in love with trucks now I won’t to drive my own. For more informational and educational groups I would be centered on more short-term sessions or events. These shorter sessions I would gear around gear toward a group size of 9-15. I think the larger size would be acceptable because of the educational nature of the content. According to Gillombardo, who has done research on group career counseling in secondary education, found that when career-planning activities were implemented, counselors would hold one-time seminars to a large group of students in order to provide information in a timely manner. Within these large group seminars, the school may provide information on post-secondary education and careers, but not necessarily help the students learn about their interests and values regarding careers (2005, p. 8). Obviously, this research validates the use of young adults in a school setting. However, the principles would be just of valuable in a professional setting.

A career fair is an important event for all students aspiring to make connections with employers for future job goals. I attended the Impact career fair Spring 2018. This event gave me a chance to step outside my comfort zone and talk to professionals proactively. There were 13 companies at the career fair, and 3 of them were public, and the rest were private. Also, I came to the event prepared as it was my first networking event. I wore business attire and brought my resume and business cards with me. Finally, the essential things in career fair is a 30 second commercial or an elevator pitch. I prepared myself to sound like I thought about why I am there. In the 30-second commercial, I focused on my strengths and assets that I would like to use in my career. I practiced it many times until I can say it fluently. After reading the information about different employers, I picked few of them based on their involvement in various activities, their internships and their future plans.
