Yvanne V. Prezil April 16, 2017 Jobsearch (SLS 3308, Section 001) Career Network Event Assignment I went for the Career Network Event and it was a great learning experience for me. I went there trying to apply everything that I learned from my job search class and it was a success. Because I had the chance to speak to the employer of my interest, and I everything went as planned, I remember my professor in class told us to make sure we have a goal and to know which company that we would like to work for and just go for it. I went in there and I did the exact thing that he told us. I remember before taking this class I used to try to speak to every single one of employer and then I put everything in one folder. Later on when I went to contact the job that I was interested in, I would get all the employers mixed up and because of that, that cost me a lot of jobs that I always wanted in the past. …show more content…
I made sure not to try to speak with so many employers. This time I spoke with three of them and I got their contact number and tried to contact them back. One of them was really interested in me, but because of the distance, and since I am not graduating yet, I had to let that offer go. I learned from my mistake. I also know now what I was doing wrong. At the beginning I didn’t know what I was doing wrong, though; I thought seeing all of the employers, that I was doing something useful, but by the time I was done I would get so exhausted and didn’t even contact any of the employers. I learned how to organize what questions to ask them, and prioritize my choice of employer that I want to work for. After making my decision I contacted the company that I want to work for to see if got the
I focused on education because that is where I felt most qualified and because I enjoyed the idea of working with young children everyday. I was able to find employment in the Mountain Empire Unified School District working as a D/HH teacher’s aid and I work there to this day. Recently, I applied into the San Diego Mesa College Interpreting program. I started out with two classes and decided to see how the semester would go and if I would want to continue or pursue my masters in Deaf Education. Both career options were important to me but as a working single mother, I believed that the best option for me would present itself later on. I enjoyed being back in school and what the courses had to offer but was frustrated with the structure of the program. I felt that with the many things going on in my life, that it was not the path I wanted to take at the time. Becoming a teacher and furthering my career as an educator seemed more appealing and more rewarding to me. In time, the choice was clear. I wanted to become a
Although my group was not able have the second interview with Sheraton Suites Hotel, I was able to gain a lot of knowledge about a different company. I learned much about an extremely popular lodging franchise (Motel 6 and Studio 6) and from that I can enlighten people around me that next time I am traveling and pass one of them. Like I said before, I was not very familiar

It was mid sophomore year of high school when I started the job hunt. I applied to many places, grocery stores, restaurants, and even the movie theaters. No reply from any of them. It was about a month and a half when Bob from Peter Piper Pizza called me up looking for new employees.

So after graduation I decided to explore my options at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. Wow, was this a mistake? Not only was the college to big for my own well being, but the big university provided too many distractions. This is why I feel I have finally taken the right and first step. in securing my future.
My first job was with a loan officer where I worked as support staffer which pretty much meant everything from translating and interpreting to taking out the trash. From there I worked for a bit at Target, in their little café/Starbucks, which was my lesson in life where I did not want to be. During this time I interviewed for an internship with then Senator Ensign, and was brought on the team as an intern. I graduated high school and knew I had to get out of fast food, and went to apply for retail. I landed a job in a luxury retail store, thanks to my multiple language skills and did great. I had the time of my life working with very important and high profile clients and being close to what I loved Fashion, but I knew this was not going to be my career. I quit for an opportunity I was offered with Nevada Youth Coalition helping out with voter registration, but had to go back to Mexico for a bit. Upon returning I attended the NCLR conference in which I ran into a person from my past Law School mentorship program HUELLAS, who happened to tell me they were looking for a file clerk. I applied and interviewed, and was hired that fall with DeCastroverde Law Firm. I worked there for about a year and a half and moved up to legal assistant, when the opportunity for this job came. I interviewed in the fall, but was not given the job. I decided to head back home, and the day I returned back to Las Vegas to start my spring semester I got a call for a second interview and the rest is history.
I applied and was accepted to a DWEN conference where I learned about entrepreneurship and pitched a business idea to the DWEN employees after brainstorming with a group of four other women. DWEN is just one example of the educational opportunities I have been exposed to through the Girl
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
at least fifty applicants in front of me and I realized I was far too

The day has come. The one day that you absolutely need to bring your A-game. The day that can determine your employment status for the upcoming summer or, even scarier, your life after college. It is time for the Career Fair. Even as a freshman, attending the Career Fair is a valuable learning experience, because you can practice talking to recruiters and, hopefully, get a job shadow or internship for the upcoming summer. This is how I thought the Career Fair was going to go, but I was proven wrong.
While only a small percentage of the entire workforce was able to participate in the event, its intention was to provide employees with something to strive toward. It was also rejuvenating for those given the opportunity to attend. The event was inspiring and left you with the feeling that you work for a great company and they do care about you; so much so that they are willing to spend a lot of money and provide you with a wonderful experience . The event also focused heavily on the driving force of the company: the students and helping them to improve and change their lives. Employees returned to work feeling inspired and ready to do just that. The event provided the company with an opportunity to invest in their employees, reward them, and make them feel
