Over all, I felt that I had a meaningful and positive experience with the capstone course. I feel that this journey has helped and opened my eyes to the importance of researching, reviewing literatures, and applying the best available evidence to improve the patient outcome and provide higher quality of care to all my patients. If not for this capstone course, I am certain that I would have never attempted to find solution to my chosen evidence based nursing problem. The requirement of this course to choose a nursing problem provided me an opportunity to examine a topic that I am passionate about and gave me chance to think critically on how to initiate a change.

I believe that one of the challenges that I experienced were to find information and statics that will support my chosen nursing problem. Kaplan Library provided me with many MRSA articles, so locating the right articles that are perfect and relevant to my topic was a
The role of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in health care has been identified as a critical role in the goal to provide high-quality health care. APRNs have a bigger role to play in the health care system and it is important that students are provided with relevant and valuable knowledge as well as experience that improve their abilities. Achieving course objectives are critical for APRNs with the goal of contributing positively to the health care system. As a future APRN, I place high priority on life-long learning and the development of other people’s skill sets. All duties associated with health care require a dedication to excellence and selflessness. These are two components of learning that will improve the capabilities of
It can train me to be properly prepared with a college mindset instead of having that mindset that is still in high school. I can gain a bachelors, possibly a masters, degree as I go to college. Having a bachelors or masters degree gives me not just a sense of accomplishment by making my family proud, but also a feeling of accomplishment of how far I overcame to reach that degree. But all of this would not happen if it were not the help of this program that will soon become the backbone on living a better
The course also prepared me to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. While attending clinicals, I practiced procedures and proper care for the elderly. My experiences in the nursing home helped me realize that there was more to nursing than just giving proper care to those in need. During my clinicals, I was able to sit down with the residents assigned to me and hear their childhood stories. They shared many old pictures and possessions with me that made it worth the visit. It really touched my heart to know that my residents looked forward to seeing me and providing them with my care and compassion made a difference in their stay at the nursing home. When I reflect on my experiences, I begin to look forward to my career in nursing. I know the appreciation I feel when I have others caring for me, so that is a feeling that I would like to give in return to reassure every single one of my patients that they are cared for and their health and well-being is my primary
Our course, Transition to Professional Nursing, is barely two weeks old and already I am being enlightened and challenged to expand my experience of nursing. I will attempt to explain my personal journey and experience thus far including how and why I got here, my beliefs about nursing and related values, and my visions for the future.
Today’s healthcare system is consistently evolving with new advances, technologies, and evidence based research. In order to meet the demands of nursing to continue to deliver safe and effective practice, positive patient outcomes, nurses are challenged to stay on top of the industry by continuing education.
In the article, Promoting Evidence-Based Practice Through A Research Training Program For Point Of Care Clinicians, the authors state that evidence based practice is, “a problem-solving approach to clinical care that incorporates the conscious use of current best practice from well-designed studies, clinician’s expertise, and patient values and preferences” (Black, Balneaves, Garossino, Puyat, Qian, 2015, p.14). The nursing student should use evidence-based practice in order to make decisions about the patient's care plan. Using evidence-based practice while deciding how to appropriately care for a patient will ensure that the nursing student is using the most effective and current techniques. The nursing student should also use this standard to guarantee that they are providing the best care possible while still honoring the patient’s values and
How do you think your education as a RN has influenced you as a nurse or as an individual?
Nursing is the balance between art and science. Caring is an important aspect that patients expect but also is knowledge in current practices. Integrating current practices into care improves quality outcomes. Evidence-based practice is the best approach in planning care for patients, it is the basis for proven, factual outcomes that we expect. Experience and personal opinions are great assets but are not sound ideals to provide safe and effective care. Evidence-based practice uses clinical judgment with selective research to deliver the most effective, cost-efficient outcomes (Wilkinson et al., 2014). Standards are held to the highest of quality, helping to reduce or eliminate errors. Standardizing healthcare to science and evidence-based practice helps to reduce variations among facilities (Stevens, 2013). All healthcare professionals need to adopt this practice in order for its success. With more participation, quality of care increases, the patient is the core
During the Capstone experience, I had three professional goals that I hoped to accomplish. Processional goal #1: To view the evidence-based practices that BHCH employs in taking care of the patients. I also reached my objectives by reading about postpartum hemorrhage and identifying the tools that would help to recognize postpartum hemorrhage in pregnant women during my Capstone period. Profession goal #2 view health care policies about cultural sensitivity and safe health practice. In fact, I familiarized myself with the demographic and listening to a translator speaking to a Spanish patient. Professional goal #3 View safety goals that help to reduce medical errors. I was able to attend meetings with the interdisciplinary team on several
Nursing students at State University need better clinical experiences and better clinical sites. Clinical sites that have nothing to do or preceptors who don’t want to educate should be cut out and replaced with better sites. Ideally each clinical should allow nursing students to gain experience in critical skills and patient ca...
Every single encounter I had, including those with my peers and facilitators have left me a better nurse and person than when I arrived. It truly has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of this experience as it motivates me to seek out new experience and research to facilitate my continued growth both personally and as a nurse partaking in the process of my cleints’ “becomings”. For the outcome, Clinical Competence I have learned the importance of the nursing process in my current class, Skills and Concepts. This information is relatively new to me, so I know I have plenty of room to grow in this area. I have learned how to utilize the resources that I am provided. One resource in particular is my pocket guide. This has been a useful tool in helping learn and write a nursing diagnosis based upon a given situation. As I progress through the rest of this class; I hope by the end to be more competent in ways of providing the best possible care while utilizing the nursing process.
Reflecting back, this program has enriched my professional career, knowledge, and perspective of nursing in various ways. I believe I have developed advanced critical thinking and analytical skills, high EI based on learned knowledge, flexibility to accept change, and rational reasoning/knowledge to understand EBP and nursing research. The program offered me more than I had expected, in terms of knowledge, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, competency, and creativity. Each course and its innovative learning style (e.g., voice thread, youseeu, journal club, etc.) challenged, empowered, and motivated me to perform better, aim higher, and excel. Upon graduation, I intend to take a minimum six month break to enjoy quality family time and social life before embarking on a master
The role of the nurse is diverse and complex, and is not only concerned with the patient’s body, but also their mind and soul. Nurses are not simply trained to perform tasks, but are trained to be professionals who utilize evidence-based practice with a compassionate and empathetic approach to care. These tasks carry a heavy weight and responsibility, and require that we treat all patients with honor, dignity, and respect. While I had a small idea of these things before beginning school, their gravity has become more of a reality in recent weeks. I hope to be a nurse who utilizes evidence-based practice combined with excellent patient-centered care to touch my patient’s lives and care for them in meaningful
the greater understanding of importance of multifaceted approach to addressing healthcare issues but also strengthened my critical thinking skills in design and evaluation of effective plans. Similarly, I am participating in the six-day proposal development training program in the upcoming month and the training will certainly help me to acquire further knowledge in health care planning and
