Tsunami is an unheard term around the Los Angeles area. One second where enjoying the panorama from the shore and in a few minutes we might find ourselves gazing at a 30-foot wall of water. A tsunami is usually formed due to a massive earthquake. There are two kinds; the first one is called Local tsunamis and the other one is called Pacific-wide tsunamis, the only difference between these two is the earthquake that caused the tsunami differs from location . All of our civilians know that in a time of a Tsunami they must move to higher ground. About three years ago the U.S. Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.) created a hypothetical scenario revolving around the estimation that a possible earthquake elsewhere can potentially trigger a tsunami in Southern California. An 8.3 magnitude earthquake hit Chile which led for a tsunami to form and caused the most damage. According to Lucy Jones of Caltech stated on NBC that this event was a wakeup call for California . In the event of a tsunami disaster, the Los Angeles County would immediately send out emergency alerts to reach out to the public via text message. Then law enforcement along with Lifeguards would work together to warn and keep the people away from the beaches. In other cities in the United States such as Washington and Hawaii use sirens to warn its people but according to the U.S. Geological Survey each local government has to choose their own method of warning in a time of a tsunami. According to USGS there are 43,000 people living in vulnerable areas in the LA County and this is where the evacuation would begin. Everyone in vulnerable zones such as Venice Beach would need to go to higher ground with their survival Kits, if possible.
