Buttercup: A Short Story

Buttercup is a 12 year old girl from Florin, and she really wants a horse for her 13th birthday. During school the only thing Buttercup talks about is getting a horse for her birthday. She draws horse pictures during art class in school. “What are you drawing Buttercup?” said the art teacher. Buttercup responded, “the best horse in the world,” with a big smile on her face. At playtime Buttercup acts like a horse by neighing and galloping everywhere. Buttercup’s dream horse is tan, with silky and smooth skin which is soft to the touch. The skin glows in the light of the moon so they ride the night away together. Buttercup’s parents are Farmers on the countryside of Florin they take great pride in their garden on the small acre of land they share with other people. Buttercup’s Parents are barely making end meet and there is no way they could possibly afford a horse for Buttercup when It’s the third night this week the family has eaten gray, lumpy, porridge for dinner. After Buttercup went to bed, her parents were coming up with ideas on how they would break the news that they couldn't afford a horse to her. Buttercup’s Parents decided that they would take Buttercup on a walk around the farm which is one of Buttercup’s favorite activities. Buttercup loved to walk by horse stalls and admire the horses. Right when Buttercup’s Parents were going to tell her they can't give her a horse for her birthday, Buttercup saw a new horse that she have never seen before in the stalls. Buttercup asked her parents if that horse was her birthday present. Buttercup’s parents sat her down on the hay surrounding the stalls and told her they tied to find her a horse but they just couldn’t afford one right now. Instead they gave her a horse plushie and card decorated with horses all over
