Introduction: Transport system is the major necessity in urban areas, which should provide access to residential, commercial, institutional, recreational, public and semi public spaces that are spread over the city. Public transport system is one which should be able to satisfy the mobility of poor and vulnerable groups which is one as mentioned in millennium development goals. Hence not only the size of city, the other parameters included while deciding the type of technology ( transit system ) used also depends upon density, population, location of CBD and its area, existing transport links, per capita income, ridership share etc.

Finance Viability: India is having high levels of vehicle ownership of about 60-80 percent of motor vehicle fleets in Indian cities, which is creating a difficulty to attract people to public transport, unless the latter is made very convenient and inexpensive.
