Abstract
Gerard Egan’s The Skilled Helper is an informative book for a person going into the field of counseling. The scenarios show strengthens in using the three stage model in which the therapist can use to help clients move from negative lifestyles; or problems to a more positive approach for making changes in the client’s life. During stage one the helper is assisting the client in discovering their existing situations or issues. Similarly, the counselor is helping the client explore new perspectives of his or her life in stage two. In the last stage, the helper is assisting the client in developing a strategy with skills to cope with current issues and learn new skills to enable the client to have a more productive life.

The following are questions that counselors use for clients to elaborate answers in which can help the client take notice of their concerns: What’s going on in my life? What new perspective will help me deal with my concerns? Which issues will make a real difference in my life? Additionally, while a client is telling his or her story that alone is therapeutic for the client. By unveiling their secrets to the therapist the anxiety becomes a relief to the client. The client’s physical and emotional tension begins to disappear, because speaking about it helps the client to take notice of the issues, and he/she can start to look for a new perspective in stage two of the Egan
