There are a lot of worldly things people desire to achieve. A great example of this is “Bound 2” by Kanye West. Kanye’s music represents the rap genre, rap has a lot of songs about love and how people act when in love. Love can make you a different person. As showed in his music, Kanye is a hard nosed person. He shows a soft side when it comes to love. Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 8, 1977. He is currently 40 years old. West started out producing for local artists. He developed “chipmunk soul” which included sped up soul samples. He got his big break producing “This Can’t Be Life” for Jay Z. The name Kanye means “the one and only” in Swahili. I found lyrical support for the song “Bound 2” by Kanye West. He shows that he is acting differently with this female. He writes “Okay, I don’t remember when we first met” (Bound 2). Showing that he used drugs or alcohol when he met this girl. He goes on to show he will change when he writes “But hey, admitting is the first step” These lyrics portray that love can make you a different person if Kanye is willing to change (Bound 2). …show more content…
In the song “Thinkin’ Bout’ You” by Frank Ocean. He say’s “A tornado flew around my room before you came, excuse the mess it made”that explains that his “room” or life is a mess and is embarrassed because he wants to look like a clean guy (Thinkn’ Bout’ You) . In Kendrick Lamar’s song “LOVE” he says “If i didn’t ride blade on curb, would you still (love me)” he is asking if I didn’t drive a car with large rims and low profile tires would you still love me (LOVE)? Another example comes from J. Cole, a line from the song “Power Trips” is “ Anonymous flowers sent, you know childish sh*t”tells us that he is acting like a coward and not acting like he has clout (Power Trips) . He is changing how he is because he acts because he is in
Kanye met Kim in 2004 while Kim was married to another man. They both dated other people until they got together in 2012. Kanye waited over 8 years to date Kim. He wrote a line in one of his famous songs “Cold” saying “And I’ll admit, I had fallen in love with Kim / Around the same time she had fallen in love with him.” ("Kanye West (Ft. DJ Khaled) – Cold")
Teenagers might see the explicit sign with the cartoon-animated theme of the album cover and feel very intrigued, making them want to listen. Adults that have been previous Kanye fans might also want to listen, just for the fact that it is a Kanye West Album. Another audience group could be for people who are happy and love different styles of music. This second album is very bright and colorful, which goes hand in hand with happiness and fun. The audience may see the chain on the bear and immediately assume it is a hip-hop genre of music, aside from the fact that Kanye West is a rapper. So, people that are fans of hip hop would appeal to this album also.
He says in the song “Man I’m so self-conscious, that’s why you always see me with one of my watches,” showing that he took the route of obtaining material possessions as soon as he acquired money to try and show others his success (West). He furthers this point by stating “then I spent 400 bucks on this, just to be like, you ain’t up on this,” showing it wasn’t just one instance, but a constant reoccurrence of showing off his material possessions to constantly try and present himself to others as “successful(West).” Even though both songs describe the shortcuts of people trying to show others their success through material goods, they overlap by not promoting those actions.
“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” by Kanye West is truly remarkable and a work of art for that decade and possibly for the century as well. If you’ve yet to figure out, the starting lyrics were extracted from this album. For Kanye West, releasing new and creative styles of works is crucial, each album of his utilizes a new element, all of his albums from “College Dropout” to “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” reflect and support this statement, his listeners can concur as
Most rap songs about relationships are used as a way to preach about power, money and status. What makes Lamar’s video LOYALTY unique is that he took a different approach on the overused narrative. Kendrick Lamar’s video LOYALTY is a creative platform which uses movement through visual effects and camera angles to demonstrate hypermasculinity and active female roles through the scenes which together, tell a story of power and loyalty within a
He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.
He talks about him being “two Jay Z’s.” He learns what kind of songs to put out by his fans’ response. In an article, “Jay Z Beat the System” he says “It’s like life – sometimes you just want to ‘dumb out’ in the club; other times you just want to get real and do deep.” He uses this life scenario to make sure that he has a good balance of music that a party can ‘jam’ to and also give them something to think about. His songs, “Big Pimpin” and “I Just Wanna Love You” are examples of how Jay Z can go from his ‘wild side’ to his more sensitive side to attract the attention of his fans. Jay Z speaks on how “dumbing down a record actually forces an artist to be smarter.” Doing this helps the artist “to balance, craft authenticity, and accessibility.” The definition he gives for “dumbing down” a song is “a song that appeals to a lower common denominator- a big chorus and a great beat and easy to follow lyrics.” An example he gives, as a “dumbed down” song is one of his biggest ‘hits’, Empire State of
“There is an intellectual distinction between a gangster in a business environment and a businessman in a gangster environment,” says Ross (Ross 74). 'Freeway’ Rick Ross grew up illiterate, living on the streets with rough gangs, and in impoverished neighborhoods where violence and drugs were on the rise. Rick goes into the drug business. Danilo Brandon became Rick’s main drug supplier and his downfall. Blandon had been more than Rick’s connection: He belonged to a ring of exiled Nicaraguans with ties to the Contras, the CIA-backed guerrilla army fighting a civil war in the name of anticommunism (Katz). Unbeknownst to him, he possibly ended up a pawn in a United States government conspiracy to trade drugs for guns during the Iran-Contra affair (Moore). Regardless, Freeway Rick Ross went from being one of the largest crack cocaine dealers in the eighties to prison in the nineties to fund raiser and legal entrepreneur today.
Kanye Omari West, an icon of hip-hop, pop culture, fashion and music in general. Kanye Omari West, a person belittled against and a person subjected to a life of racism and hate. Born on June 8th, 1977, Donda West, West’s mother, always knew he was destined for greatness, but did she know her son would turn out to be the Kanye West, a man lacking the respect he deserves for transforming a big part of the music we listen to on this very day? West came onto the scene in the late nineties but didn’t release The College Dropout until 2004, an album that took everybody by surprise. Kanye West changed the gangster filled rap genre by releasing his positive, soulful debut album, changing the way rappers dress, and paving the way for a whole new style of introspective lyrics and soul-inspired rap production in the mainstream.
Kanye Omari West, rapper, producer, professional celebrity, and with an ego to match, has forced himself into the limelight of the music industry. Kanye West has made a lasting impression on all of those around him, whether it be a good one or bad. With seven full length albums, a multimillion record label company, and a successful fashion business all under his belt, it’s fair to say that Kanye has done his fair share of creating. Over the last twelve years Kanye went from a young Chicago kid just trying to get his flows off, to one of the most decorated musicians of all time. With over 20 Grammy’s and 3 of his albums ending up on the Rolling stones “500 greatest albums of all time”. He has continuously created, entertained, and spoken his mind for years. Whether it be “George Bush does not care about black people” or “Taylor imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had
Kanye is able to receive substantial critical acclaim for a track dealing with heavy themes such as this one because of the way he artistically presents these themes; using allusion, symbolism, and increased metaphor. He unleashes a new level of power as he juxtaposes the dark world of Hip Hop with the aesthetic of a minimalist fine artist, combining the two through a modernist lens, which allows the audience to further connect with his work. The “Skinhead” is not only aesthetically pleasing and catchy, but it also challenges and encourages the “cognitive and pragmatic capabilities” of West’s audience.
Throughout Drake’s musical career, the theme he raps about the most is the male/female relationship. As I referenced it before the relationship between men and women is one of the pillars of rap. His most commercially successful and loved songs are about the relationships he’s had with a woman. Instead of talking about selling drugs or violent lyrics, Drake raps about his love of women and the relationships he has with him. He talks about the mistakes he’s made in the relationship one song in particular “Sooner than Later” he talks about how he has this girl he loves but let’s her get away from him and doesn’t realize it until she’s gone when he raps, “I forgot to call on your birthday/ You swear you’re the last thing on my mind, yeah/ There
It is so hard to become a rapper. But it is harder to become a Great Rapper. I believe Tupac is a great rapper. Not only a great rapper, but the greatest rapper. Like Snoop Dogg had said, “Tupac was many different things at once. Hardheaded and intellectual, courageous and afraid, revolutionary and….oh yeah, don’t get it f***ed up, gangsta.” To be a great rapper, you must have impact, commercial success, be good at song writing, a lot of performances and live shows and lastly, hella good rapping. The first song I heard from tupac was “ambitions az a ridah and all eyes on me” and it was real original so I went and listened to ‘Brenda got a baby’ which made me think “dammmmm he good, he good as hell”
In 2007 , West released “Graduation” this would be his third studio album. This album , like Late Registration had many successful songs. “Stronger” , “Can’t Tell me Nothing” , and “Flashing Lights” were the singles that put the album under the spotlight. While recording Graduation , Kanye looked to country and folk music to show him how to use clever wordplay. The artwork of Graduation shows a teddy bear known as the “Dropout Bear” going through many obstacles to make it to his graduation in time. The artwork is often credited as one of the most recognizable rap album
“Here he got his big break handling the production for the Jay Z track "This Can't Be Life," which appeared on the 2000 album Dynasty: Roc La Familia” (A&E,2018). The following year he started to produce more, he produced in four songs of Jay-Z ,then he had produced in songs for Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Ludacris, Alicia Keys and Beyoncé. He then wrote and recorded a song called “Through the Wire” were its about his head on collision and how his jaw was shattered. After he finished his first album by himself it was leaned online. In his opinion he knew he could do. Better so he added a little more instruments to his music and he hired people to play different things so it could sound better to not just him but to his soon to be fans. His next album that he released in February 2004 was called “College Dropout” he sold two point six million copies and that's what made him a star. Everyone said that I broke the record of gangsta-rap, in that whole album he had all kinds of different things to rap about including racism, education, beliefs. “Mr. West has had the most sui generis hip-hop career of the last decade. No rapper has embodied hip-hop’s often contradictory impulses of narcissism and social good quite as he has, and no producer has celebrated the lush and the ornate quite as he has” (New York Times,2018). Many people did not think he would become famous as
