The most successful treatments for Borderline Personality Disorder range from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoeducation and medications consisting of antipsychotics such as Zyprexa or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI’s) including Fluoxetine (Prozac) or Paroxetine (Paxil) to reduce the occurrences of mood swings, depression, boredom, agitation, and emptiness. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can benefit Evie Zamora because it can help her identify and change her core beliefs and behaviors to her negative self-image or insecurities. Although Evie Zamora can overlap with other disorders in Cluster B, she has a high chance of recovering if she were to commit to therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Alexander Chapman stated that Borderline Personality Disorder is not a death sentence. Rates of patients with this disorder have a 50% chance of recovering and functioning well in social settings or their personal lives (Chapman, 2011) Evie continuously reverts to her old behavior patterns she developed in adolescences because she has not learned any new coping skills. There were more than five of the nine systems of Borderline present in Evie’s personality. She shows a lack of emotional instability, distorted self-image, impulsive behaviors, and unstable interpersonal relationships. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy specifically addresses each of those area’s listed above. Evie was not given any psychological treatment growing up, and DBT can allow her to directly asks for what she wants without having resentment or hurt feelings. It also can allow her to be mindful, tolerate distress and have better social adjustments to form healthy relationships.
