“To me there has never been a higher source of earthly honor or distinction than that connected with advances in science” – Sir Isaac Newton. When you think about Newton the common image we perceive is that of a bearded scientist sitting under an apple tree, until an apple bumps onto his head and Newton discovers gravity. Although apple tree was the original stimulant to the idea the whole incident cannot be concluded merely as an accident as opposed to a much careful thought as confirmed by Newton’s close associates and historians. Born in 1643, Newton is one of the greatest polymaths of the entire history and also arguably the most influential. He was born prematurely by about three months, it was said he was so small at the time of his birth that he could fit into a mug. It has been written saying Newton had a rough childhood coming from a farmer family. His father died even before his birth and he was unappreciated by his stepfather therefore forced to live with his grandmother. He waited tables at Cambridge to fund his school fee. Later when his mother passed away he inherited a sizable estate to make him more financially stable. Newton never shied away from formal education and was known to often deeply immersed in study sometimes even missing classes. He had maniac depressions as cited in texts and it took him years to get out of the one due to the loss of his mother. Newton was devoted to work and was never married, however he wasn’t completely a shut-in he did interact with his fellow scientists at Cambridge and also known to have a select few of friends. Newton was very passionate about his work and his findings; he once poked a needle into his eye socket as a part of his experiment. He stared at the sun wi... ... middle of paper ... ...m to understand white light and its band of colors, so he introduced a curved mirror into a telescope in order to avoid the disbandment of the white light. Newton was a religious man. He followed Arianism and strongly opposed Roman Catholics. He was never public of his believes because he feared for his reputation and safety. He once made a list of the sins he committed on a piece of paper probably to attain spiritual calmness. Newton surely was the most influential scientist of our time. His work in mathematics is unparalleled. His theories are the foundations laid for modern physicists today. He died in the year 1727, was laid to rest at the famous Westminster Abbey. Being a religious man he said “ Gravity explains the motion of the planets, but it doesn’t explain who set the planets in motion, God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.”
