Flies and spiders Gloomy tunnel Bilbo’s leadership starts when he awakens in a spider cave wrapped in a web, where Bilbo killed the giant spider with his sword sting. The following morning he found the dwarfs hanging by webs about to be eaten by giant spiders, and Bilbo had to save them but they were half asleep and drowsy from spider poison. Bilbo tells them that he would lead the spiders away but they would have to fight back. This is the beginning of Bilbo’ s leadership.

This leads them farther into the woods following strange lights and wood elves feasting. They eventually get lost, and as the night starts to darken, lose each other. Bilbo is stranded in the woods alone when he meets a spider, in which he kills. This spider led him to a clearing with hundreds of giant spiders making webs with bundles tied to their centers. The bundles were the dwarves waiting to be eaten by the arachnids. Bilbo turns himself invisible and begins teasing and throwing rocks at the spiders. This maddens the creatures, luring them away from the bundles up in the trees. Bilbo secretly begins cutting the bundles down, one by one. The spiders came back as the last of the bundles were cut. Bilbo turns invisible again and begins killing the spiders one by one, while running away. They eventually drive off the spiders and escape into the woods, only to be lost again. As they continue their journey, Bilbo faces Gollum, another enemy, and defeats him in a battle that leaves Bilbo with a magic ring. The magic ring is a helpful object in this movie, as it allows him to disappear from danger and having possession of it allows Bilbo to help save the company multiple times. One of those times is when the company tries to fight off giant spiders and all but Bilbo end up captured by mean-spirited Mirkwood elves. Bilbo spends weeks using the ring to sneak around the dungeon and later figures out an escape plan for them. Though the hobbit does come with a lot of trails and enemies, it also provides the group tons of allies. They found allies in Beorn a bear shape-shifter that feeds them and allows them to stay at his home for a while, the Rivendell elves who throw them a feast, and the giant eagles who save them from being killed.
