In the Biblical era many civilians had a completely different life than ours, and their life was not as simple as ours. Most people in the biblical century an everyday life consisted of living in rural areas and harsh work in order to provide for the family. Many people believe life, in Ancient Biblical times, was not as tough as some people set it out to be, however many people had to suffer from hard work, diseases, slavery, daunting occupations, and poor quality clothing.
A common everyday life in Biblical times was not much different from our life today if you exclude all of our technology and modern homes. A family consisted of a father or grandfather, a mother or grandmother, a daughter, and a son. Males would do hard labor and the wives …show more content…

Many occupations are mentioned thought the web page called “Occupations in Bible Times” occupations are mentioned through out the web page such as cooks, fishermen, hunters, shepherds, judges, and many more. A baker was a popular occupation in this century. “Baking bread was a frequent task performed in the Hebrew home long before it evolved into a special trade” (Swanson). Fishermen were a group of food gatherers. “The ancient fishermen tools were unlike his modern counterparts, instead fishing was done by hook and line, spears, and nets” (Swanson). Hunting was one of the most common occupations and was the second group of food gatherers. “The ancient hunter’s success depended upon the proficiency in the use of a bow and arrow, spear, traps and snares, and his knowledge of prey” (Swanson). In Luke 2:8 shepherds were mentioned as keeping watch over their flock by night. “Shepherds were to care for and feed the people for whom they were responsible” (Swanson). “Before the coming of the monarchy, with its more centralized system of government came the judges. God chose to lead his people, especially in times of crisis” (Swanson). “Deafness may be partial or complete. There are several general areas that may be involved in deafness. Many people suffered deafness because of infections of the external ear canal”. Some diseases in the bible were common, but now it seems as if those diseases do not exist anymore such as boil. “Boil. It is likely that the word boil as used in the bible covered many types of skin diseases, such as pustules, carbuncles, and was caused by abscesses of infected glands” (Mounce). Our common everyday problems existed in ancient biblical times such as indigestion. Indigestion is an annoying stomach problem that can often occur after eating a meal and causes severe discomfort in the stomach. In the Bible indigestion is mentioned in 1 Timothy 5:23. “Paul writes to Timothy “no longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and frequent illness” (Mounce). During winter we tend to be sick and have fevers. Fevers happen when there is a rise in the temperature levels in your body that are above normal. In the bible a fever is mentioned when Peter’s mother is suddenly claims to have a fever. “Fevers might have been cause by a flu, pneumonia, or an intestinal disease” (Mounce). Mental illnesses were mentioned in the Bible such as insanity. In Proverbs 26:18 insanity was mentioned as “like a madman who throws firebrands,
