TEAM SPORT ASSIGMENT There are both benefits and disadvantages of being a part of a team sport. For this assignment, I have listed the pros and cons below, giving a brief but detailed description of each reason stated for both sides of the argument. Pros: • teaches interdependence • teaches cooperation • there's always a replacement when someone is hurt or tired • there's less pressure (people aren't always looking at you) Friendship Playing sports enables you to create friendships you otherwise might not have formed. Sports bring teens together from different schools, backgrounds, and communities. Many times, the friendships you create on the field remain intact even when you are not playing sports. Starting a team is a great way to bring individuals together that share a common sporting interest. Team sports are a great way to make new friends, and share in a common interest. Participation Team sports mean involvement and participation in an activity that keeps one fit and allows a person to make good use of their spare time. Playing sports helps teenagers physically, socially, and mentally. Sports team participation may enhance school connectedness, social support and bonding among friends and teammates. Commitment Being a part of a team sport shows members commitment and dedication to an activity. It allows the team member to learn commitment not only in team sports, but overall in life as well. Going to practices, games and meetings, and showing dedication to a team that one is part of is vital. Athletes build character through their participation in sports. Health Benefits We all know the health benefits that sports provide. This is where yoga helps: postures, breathing techniques and meditation. PAIN PREVENTION Yoga is known to have great health benefits, and one of the most prominent is pain prevention. Increased flexibility and strength can help prevent the causes of some types of back pain. Many people who have back pain spend a lot of time sitting at a computer or driving a car, because you are always sitting in the same position; a position that does not improve your posture or health. That can cause tightness and spinal compression, which you can slowly and gradually address with yoga. Yoga also improves your alignment, both in and out of class, which helps prevent many other types of pain. The exercises in yoga focus on posture whilst sitting or standing, and these really can prevent back pain or injuries.
