Globalization, in theory, should contribute to the prosperity of all. Although in practice it seems

that globalization is capable of doing more harm than good to the sustainable prosperity of

people in developing countries. Today we face many challenges in sharing the wealth created by

modern globalization. I believe that through the environment, economy, and peoples all over the

world we can see that globalization contributes to sustainable prosperity to a small extent.

In our ever developing world the environment, or more so the state of it, has become an ever

worsening concern. Globalization has created more demand for things like oil. The alberta oil

Beaches where the ships are left to be torn apart become dirty and the ocean water

becomes polluted. When we are polluting our world in the name of short term prosperity we are

damaging sustainable prosperity.

The world economy today is ever growing but just because the economy is growing does not

mean that everyone is benefiting from the growth. The majority of the world’s wealth is shared

by very few countries. Those who have the money own transnationals which keeps poverty in

developing countries so high. Our economy is so interlaced with the ridiculous working conditions of people in other countries yet many do nothing to stop it. The hard truth is that

people don’t want prices for things to go up and that requires letting people in developing

countries continue to be mistreated.

Globalization has had and will continue to have a profound effect on cultures all over the world.

When Europeans first arrived in new lands they often abused the indigenous peoples who had

been living there for centuries. Indigenous groups all over the world have had their cultures and

identities stripped from them. This is not sustainable prosperity. Here in Canada
