• What is a typical day like as a registered nurse?

“A nurse's day is never typical or predictable.” 12-hour shifts, 5 days a week, sometimes they would even go through the night. Always having to be critically thinking to be prepared for all new situations to arise. Unfortunately, she can’t be always one on one with someone for the whole shift, but a good portion is in direct patient care for about 90% of the time and the rest was paperwork, assigning the CNA’s, and handling the medications for patients.

• Do you think it is better to work alone, or part of a team?

Working as a team is so important. “The job of nursing in a health care setting is a huge team effort but it is understandable that there is a certain amount of independence, especially

Sometimes stressful situations arise but you just must trust in what you know and the abilities of your partners.” Also, it pulls on the heartstrings when it comes to some people that you meet and grow fond of that move on.

• What do you find the most rewarding about being a nurse?

Being a nurse is all about caring and the love you have for people being translated into how you serve. It is a job of the heart. “The feeling that I receive in return for giving people my time and caring for them is priceless. Every day I go to work I go with a smile on my face knowing that I'm doing something that makes me feel like the best I can be." You get the chance to even brighten someone’s day and help them feel even a little bit better.

• What are your biggest motivators at work? Patient care or certain responsibilities?

Motivators at work are everywhere. “You meet patients that you find connections with and form a bond which can help motivate you to get more invested into projects to reach out and be more involved. Patient care is what gets me out of bed”. Being one-on-one with people helps to learn new things and push you to work harder with other patients. It helps to keep a positive frame of mind
