Becoming A Peer Mentor

1. Based on my previous and new knowledge of what Peer Mentors do and what it means to be a Peer Mentor, I want to be a Peer Mentor because I understand how crucial and important it is for all girls entering Vis to feel welcomed and embraced into our wonderful community! I also want to be a peer mentor because, when I was a freshman, the Peer Mentors had a very positive impact on my freshman year. At the beginning of freshman year I was very nervous, as most are, and I remember the Peer Mentors consoled my worries about high school in general, with the freshman talk, and finals when they taught me how to organize a good binder. The strengths that I posses that I think are essential to be a good Peer Mentor are my capability of being a leader and my approachability. The qualities that I posses, leadership and being easily approachable by younger students, ultimately lead to what I consider myself as a happy-helper! I consider myself to be an enthusiastic, energetic person who is always willing and happy to help anyone in need. Another quality that I posses, that would make me very fit to be a Peer Mentor, is being social which leads to my ability and passion to create relationships with people. If I were selected as a Peer Mentor, I think that it would be essential that I would be a role model for younger students. To be a good role model for younger students I would always try my best to help others and set an example for others by displaying a positive attitude towards all people and all situations both in school and outside of school. I would try my best to set an example for all of the younger students by making relationships with many girls and continuing to grow relationships with those younger than me. Being a good role model inside and outside of school would consist of being a friendly face to all, participating in school events and extracurricular activates, and being social with others, at the right time. Being a good role model, specifically, in school would consist of setting an example by being a good student and helping those seeking help.
