Mullane - Project 1 This video has several different parents discussing their autistic children. Many of these parents did not realize there were problems with their child, but they discuss how this was detected. The reason for this lack of awareness was that many of these autistic children were first kids so the parents did not have a reference point for milestones. Due to this lack of a comparison, they would realize their child was not meeting goals when answering questions of the pediatrician. In fact, one conversation involved the doctor asking how many words the child knew. The parent said none. This was a startling realization that something wasn’t normal. Another way these parents discovered there were problems is seeing children of friends and realizing their child was not acting the same way. Aspergers is a higher functioning form of Autism although some may have it worse than others. This is more common in boy than it is in girls. When having this condition people may have a hard time talking or socializing with people they aren’t close with or don’t share the same interests with. Kids with Aspergers usually show interest in specific topics such as superheroes, cars, insects, pretty much anything. They also enjoy things like television, video games, tablets, phones, basically anything with a screen. With a screen usually comes bright lights and loud noises. People with Aspergers don’t enjoy either of these things so to keep them safe from it use sunglasses and noise blocking earmuffs.

Many of these children will not attend special schools, but instead be included in the general education population by inclusion. Inclusion has been found to have a number of benefits for children with autism. In addition, negative perspectives have also come into play when discussing autism and inclusion. Furthermore, parents have the right to make decisions for their child on an individual basis.
As the years go by, medical research has increased, and we've learned a lot about mental disorders that we'd originally known nothing about. Unfortunately, this also means that people have been placing others into stereotypical categories that are usually untrue. This is wrong and hurtful, and can sometimes even cause someone’s disorder to become worse. In this paper, I will talk about the symptoms and struggles of Asperger Syndrome, such as social disabilities and uncontrolled emotional outbursts. But I will also focus on how someone with Asperger’s can overcome their difficulties. People with mental disabilities are not incapable of turning their lives around and living productively, and the world needs to become aware of this. With the right treatment, someone with Asperger's can have a normal life. We need to stop prejudging people with AS and realize that they're really just like us.
Autistic Spectrum Disorder is one of the most commonly diagnosed childhood disorders (Autism Society Canada. 2010). It can be characterised by communication challenges, social development impairment , ritualistic behaviours and resistance to change (Tougher. 2012). When a child is born into the world, future possibilities and expectations begin to abound in a new parents mind. They don’t suspect that there may be an underlying disability waiting to snatch it all away. When comparing a normal child to that of an Autistic child, the differences sometimes are staggering. When looking at a child with Autism, there are no considerable defining attributes that would give away their disorder. Only with a psychological evaluation or in some cases a neurological scan, which would provide a noticeable difference in brain development, would you be able to diagnose. A few of the aspects to living with a child that has Autism versus the one that does not would be brain development, family dynamics, social situations and different therapies to help with the growth of the child.

On Tuesday September 26th, 2017 and Thursday September 28th, 2017 from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm, two observations were conducted that involved observing four children who have an Autism spectrum disorder. The Alternative Community Resource Program (ACRP Program) is conducted in DiSepio on the Saint Francis University campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays and encourages the exposure of children with Autism to social interactions by using games among the children and that these children are exposed to social interactions in public (via going to dinner at Torvian dining hall).
