Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom who embodies power, victory and justice. She took part in battles that defended her country and helped her allies out greatly. Athena created many inventions that helped mankind. She created the bridle, the trumpet, the flute, and the ship. Athena was known for helping others with their quests. Athena improves heroes lives through guidance. A hero is somebody admired for their achievement and courage. The list is very long on who she helped. People she helped greatly in their journeys was Odysseus, Hercules, the Greeks and Perseus. Athena was the prime reason why Odysseus was able to come home. Throughout the Odyssey, Athena guided Odysseus in his quests. Odysseus started off on the wrong foot when he went to Cyclop 's island and blinded Polyphemus, Poseidon 's son. Polyphemus told his father to never allow Odysseus to return home. With this prayer, Poseidon listens and Odysseus starts on what will be a very long journey. Athena goes to her father Zeus to try to persuade him that Odysseus should be allowed to go home. Athena tells this to her father while Posiedon is away to visit Ethiopians world so he couldn 't interfere. Furthermore, Athena does additional things to help Odysseus return home. Perseus 's quest was assigned by the king, Polydectes. This was a very dangerous quest that is assigned because Perseus came empty handed to a fake wedding. Perseus tells the king that he will get him any gift that he wants and the king responds that he wants Medusa 's head as a gift. Medusa was a terrifying gorgon that turned you into stone if you look at her. Athena gives Perseus a shiny shield to help him along the way. She tells Perseus to only look at Medusa in the reflection of his shield. This enables him to kill her without having to look at her. Athena watched over Perseus on his quest to make sure he was
