Survival Essay H) In the jungle, under an enormous tree log made of oak wood that smells like old newspaper, and you’re looking at a night so full of stars that the darkness seems transparent. Soon you hear the sound of an old 90’s stereo playing the Beastie Boys’ greatest hits with the music so loud that your ears pop and they start aching as funky beat the inches closer and closer. Then you hear the noisy voices modern American family calling an ambulance and you know that you’ve survived. B) Being a survivor takes a lot of heart and soul of you. Backwoods, bold, brave, flamboyant, hero, independent. Ethan Allen has been described with many words like these since before and after his heath. Ethan, born in 1738 on January 21, was the eldest child of Joseph and Mary Allen. In total, the Allen family had eight children: Ethan, Heman, Heber, Levi, Zimri, Ira, Lydia, and Lucy. Out of all of the Allen children, Ethan was the most successful and, quite obviously, the most memorable. When Ethan was one, his family moved from Litchfield to Cornwall, Connecticut. At the very young age of seventeen, Ethan’s father, Joseph died, making Ethan have to quit school. Two years later, Ethan joins the Litchfield County Militia and fights in the French and Indian war. At twenty-three years old, Ethan creates
Sam Houston was a great man in our history. He stood up for what he believed was good for the Union not the North or the South. When Sam was rebuked for providing the winning margin for his opponents he said “I know neither North nor South; I know only the Union.” He also said everyone “…must stand firm to the Union, regardless of all personal consequences.” He was fiercely ambitious, yet at the end he sacrificed for principle all he had ever won or wanted. He was a Southerner, and yet he steadfastly maintained his loyalty to the Union. He could be all things to all men—and yet, when faced with his greatest challenge, he was faithful to himself and to Texas.
In Joseph Plumb Martin’s account of his experiences in the Revolutionary War he offers unique insight into the perspective of a regular soldier, which differs from the views of generals and leaders such as popular characters like George Washington. Martin’s narrative is an asset to historical scholarship as a primary source that gives an in-depth look at how life in the army was for many young men during the War for Independence. He described the tremendous suffering he experienced like starvation and privation. He did not shy away from describing his criticism of the government who he believes did not adequately care for the soldiers during and after the war. While he may be biased because of his personal involvement as a soldier, he seems to relate accounts that are plausible without embellishment or self-aggrandizement. Overall, “A Narrative of A Revolutionary Soldier” is a rich source of information providing an overview of military experience during the war.

Lone Survivor is a true story that likes most books about the SEALs starts out for the most part with him talking about his friends. There is a little lead up to this and it starts with Marcus Luttrell (the lone survivor) going through his tough, country style childhood in Texas. At a very young age Luttrell decides he wants to be a Navy Seal, looking from help and training from a Green Beret named Billy Shelton. The next portion of the book falls into the usual SEAL book. It begins with his sign-up with the navy, leads through a short section of basic training. I won’t go into the details of these portions, since it has been written about and shown on television a lot. Lone Survivor does go through Luttrell’s specific experiences, difficulties, and accomplishments.
Military Sexual Trauma, also known as MST. What is it and why is it important? But have we ever thought about what could be lurking underneath all that armor?

There are many survivors who must lead their lives in fear of another attack, survivors like Helena. Helena had just turned seventeen years old and had received a vintage Volkswagen from her mother. Just days later, while washing her new car at a self-service station, a stranger approached her knife in hand and demanded she get into the vehicle. From there, he instructed her to drive to different locations and repeatedly raped her. After being held for hours, Helena had convinced him to let her go. He promised he would kill her family if she went to the police and took her drivers license so that he knew where she lived. He promised Helena that he would come visit her again and make her “his girlfriend.” Seeing that the coast was clear, she

When Louie was stranded on the raft, he never let circumstance get the better of him. The three survivors, Louie, Phil, and Mac, all had completely differing perspectives of their trouble. Louie and Phil stayed optimistic, while Maxc slowly deteriorated along with his hope. Hillenbrand wrote that "It remains a mystery why these three young men, veterans of the same training and same crash, differed so radically in their perceptions of their plight. Maybe the difference was biological; some men may be wired for optimism, others for doubt... Perhaps the men's histories had given them opposing convictions about their capacity to overcome adversity... Though all three men faced the same hardship, their differing perceptions of it appeared to be shaping their fates. Louie and Phil's ...
