A young girl, no more than 11 sneaks underneath the cruel ghetto’s wall for the second time this week, her young, yet already frail parents hardly notice she’s gone as they slave away making any money they could. The Holocaust was a mass genocide of primarily the Jewish population carried out by the Nazis- who were German. It happened during World War II, from early 1930s-mid 1940s. The Jewish Population resisted strongly against the Nazis to regain their dignity with armed and unarmed resistances. One form of resistance perpetrated by the Jewish people was armed resistance; which is where the Jews would arm themselves with whatever could be used as a weapon and stand against Nazi soldiers. One example of unarmed resistance is spiritual resistance, this is where the Jews would purposefully try their hardest to not have their wills and spirits shattered. “Most generally, spiritual resistance may refer to the refusal to have one’s spirit broken in the midst of the most horrible degradation” (Spiritual Resistance in the Ghettos 2). This quote is just the definition of what spiritual resistance is. It relates back the idea of the Jews regaining their dignity because it showed they still had morale. Similarly, another form of unarmed resistance is the teaching of the Jewish Religion. The teaching of the Jewish culture and religion was another way of unarmed resistance. Jewish teachings were a major form of defiance against the Nazis. “Jews smuggled books and manuscripts into many ghettos for safekeeping and opened underground libraries in numerous ghettos” (“Spiritual Resistance in the Ghettos” 3). The Jews risked their lives just to teach the kids about Jewish culture and religion. This is a form of resistance because they knew they could get killed for doing this, and yet, they did it anyways. In conclusion, teaching was a very valuable aspect that went into unarmed
