I dance everyday of the week, endure so many strenuous hours of training, compete almost every weekend in the winter and spring, never get a season off, and condition as much as I possibly can, yet the thing I love doing the most does not receive the title it deserves. Dance is a sport. It should be more widely considered one. But sadly, many are uneducated of just what dance is like.

The definition of a sport is, an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Dance perfectly fits the definition. In dance competitions teams and individuals compete against one another to place 1st or get scholarships. This is similar to gymnastics. Dance also requires many extreme hours of practice and working out to maintain ability and to grow everyday. Plus, more Minnesota high school girls participated in dance team more than any other sport, and was only second popular in the state next to football. Many injuries are the same as dance as in football, dancers can even be more prone to injuries than one of the toughest sports. This is because a lot of the same muscle groups are used and there are similar skills and training. Also, you have to audition to have a spot on the team and your spot can be taken away at any time.
