Proposition 1, is the homestead exemption which allows you to save on property taxes by allowing you to a portion of your home’s value from assessment. However, the home stead exemption only applies to a principal residence meaning, the home that you physically occupied and personally used the most during the five years preceding the sale of the property. The person who is primarily responsible for the home is the only one who can file the claim. Any one sixty-five and older and or disabled automatically qualify for the homestead exemption. This proposal prohibits the legislature from imposing a transfer tax on a transaction that conveys simple tittles to real property. Senator Jane nelson who’s a republican proposed this amendment with the support of Texas house representative Dennis Bonnen who’s also a republican. supporters of this amendment are ones who wish for nothing but low taxes on everyone but more limited deductions for higher income earners, simple and specific regulation on businesses, strict interpretation of our laws and Constitution, strong pro-gun stance, …show more content…

I believe the state and or government can afford to cut taxes and should pay for funding of schools. Although school taxes were payed through property taxes, schools in the poorer communities received the least funds. Schools in the poor communities are least funded because of lack of property taxes paid, or because we as the people don’t know how the spending of school funds are being spent. If the state fund school taxes then it would be a better chance of all schools being funded equally. The schools in lower income communities suffer as a whole, the school, the teachers, and the staff because they aren’t provided with the proper technology and or supplies.
