At present, cosmetics are always used in daily life. When we talk about cosmetics, most people will think of the things that only use for make-up such as lipstick, eye-shadow, mascara, blusher etc. But in fact cosmetics are not only mean to the things that only use for make-up but also shampoo, lotion or sunscreen. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) explains “Articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body… for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance.” (2014) The reason why people use makeups have different ways such as some people use for more confidence, some people use for protect the sunlight, and some people use for maintain their skin. “About 150 million people in the US use dietary supplements; about 79% use it on a daily bases, and 10% taking 5 or more per day” (Ranjani 478). Dietary supplements range from sports performance products, weight loss products, to a variety of herbal remedies. These supplements are used widely to help maintain or improve the health of the human body. While buying these products many assume that they are regulated and are safe for human consumption, however it may not be the case. “Supplements face no FDA requirements for premarket testing. Supplements can be placed on the market at the will of the makers and then remain legal for sale” (Quinones 32). Dietary supplements should be regulated like prescription drugs because it’s a safety hazard, can become addictive, and may lead to dangerous health problems.
Some people have decided that plastic surgery may help improve someones mental health and therefore should be included in health care insurance, I think this is just absurd. I am all for the improvement of mental health care considering it is very lacking in this country but I also think that until there is more proof to this argument we should not include it in everyones medical insurance fees. America is having a crises when it comes to mental health care and already doesn't include mental health care in many insurance policies as it is and this far fetched idea may not be a good thing to add in for the general public until we have more evidence to support this topic. Presented directly to the public by…‘experts’ or ‘activists,’ often with little or no supporting evidence, this ‘junk science’ undermines the ability…[for] everyday consumers to make rational decisions” (921). Yet Americans still have a lot of faith in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to a 2013 Pew Research study, 65% of Americans are “very favorable” or “mostly favorable” of the FDA. When it comes to what people put in their bodies, the FDA has a moral obligation to be truthful and transparent. The bottom line of the FDA’s myriad of responsibilities is to help protect the health of Americans. Deciding what to eat is a critical part of living healthily, and consumers must be able to trust that this massive government agency is informing them properly of the contents of food. While the FDA does an excellent job in many areas, it has flaws in other areas. The evolution of make-up has quite the turbulent ride, beginning approximately six-thousand years as means of protection and to aid health and has now evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry. During its evolution, make-up has been declared illegal, immoral and in some instances was deadly. Today, makeup comes in thousands upon thousands of colors, textures and is even specific to skin type and race.
The cosmetic industry in the United States is huge – the sale of skincare, hair care, make-up, perfumes, toiletries, and deodorants generates about $80 billion a year. The vast majority of cosmetic and beauty products are manufactured by a handful of large companies who dominate the industry, and who are more focused on profits than they are on using safer, higher quality ingredients in their products.
Over the last five years, I have been collecting makeup. Over these years, I have discovered all of the different types of makeup and the different uses for it. In this essay, I will be informing my audience of the benefits of different kinds of makeup as well as their uses.
The toxicity of the ingredients is ironic due to the fact that these ingredients would result in either additional health problems or death. There is no point in looking beautiful if one is dead. Some recipes even required the ingestion of the cosmetic causing internal health problems that reflect in the outer appearance of the body. Dietary supplements can be a good thing to use but they aren't always what they say they are. They are used by over half of all Americans and those people normally take a multivitamin or protein supplements after their workouts. In fact, whey protein is the most supplied dietary supplements among all Americans. People would also say that supplements are helpful when they become older in age, but then those people who believe supplements do not work at all. What they don't know is that if individuals take too much or too many supplements, it could hurt them and not benefit these people.

In the article “Understanding Alternative Choices of Handmade Cosmetics in Postmodern Consumer Society” Pernilla Arbajian and Yaran Di discuss how consumers perceive purchasing handmade cosmetics. Di defines “Handmade Cosmetics” as, “cosmetics made by human and made from natural ingredients, as opposed to cosmetics that are mass-produced, machine-made and made from chemical additives” (Di, 2014). The Bee’s Knees definitively can be described using this definition as a handmade cosmetic company. Companies today are aware of consumers being scattered and varied about their beliefs. This study goes through the steps and processes that consumers go through when deciding if a product if handmade or natural (regardless of how it is actually made) and how consumers assign meanings to their products of interest in their daily lives.
In discussion, it were suggested that the individual him/herself, should approach the dermatologist to do skin checkup, and get suggested the right skin care and beauty products; and the products should be avoided for any skin allergies. This is a better way where the consumers will have a better idea of what needed by their skin and they can consider this when buying beauty products and also to avoid overspend. The consumers also should check for the review of users of the beauty products they planned to buy and visit the government website to check the registered and certified beauty products; and also to report the uncertified one for the government to take action. When most people think of cosmetic surgery they think of shows such as Botched and Atlanta Plastic. Media has conditioned individuals to see cosmetic surgery as a magical cure for those who are displeased with some aspect of their body but that is simply not the case. In fact, those with mental disorders who receive cosmetic/plastic surgery often show worsening symptoms and even develop an addiction to procedures. As of today, Bariatric surgery is the only kind of cosmetic procedure that requires any degree of psychological screening (ASMBS).
