Based on some occurrences that have happened within the past two years, the validity of the argument that racial equality has begun to come closer to become completely equal has been tested. The biggest cause for this is unfortunate situations that have recently happened particularly between white officers and black unarmed men. The most famous recent case of inequality towards blacks was when Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman and the case went on trial and Zimmerman was found not guilty in 2012. Other big problems between blacks and whites which included officers were in 2014, when arrested for no good reason at all, Eric Garner was held in a chokehold and was eventually killed. Again, no serious punishment was given to the white police officer who committed this act. Blacks are feeling lesser than or on a lower level than whites because of the way that punishment is being given for crime. For example, look at the difference in reaction when a black person murders someone and when a white person murders someone. When a black person commits murder, it is a speedy process that occurs within the judicial system that leads to the death penalty most times. But when whites commit murder, usually the first thing said about the situation in media is that the person has mental issues. Rather than blaming the human themselves, they blame it on problems with their mind. This is never an excuse with black people. And I think that lately when police officers have shot and killed black people, it has been justified but in all actuality, it has been murder. Large steps have to be taken to bring us together equally and as long as punishment and the point of blame does not become the same between both sides of race, then this will forever remain a
